The Position
We are now looking for a driven and committed rock mechanic who wants to contribute to a sustainable mining operation in Pajala. As a rock mechanic, you will be part of the planning department at the mine, responsible for both short-term and long-term mining planning, measurement, geology, and grade control. The work involves operating in an area that is constantly changing and places high demands on safety awareness and security. Since our operations are conducted in the mining area of Kaunisvaara, we expect you to be stationed on-site.

Responsibilities
As a rock mechanic, you will be responsible for overarching rock mechanics issues and development within mining planning. The work involves creating conditions for safe and controlled mining. You will work closely with colleagues in mining planning and production. 
You will primarily work with structural geology, strength, slopes, and stability in the open pit at the mining area in Kaunisvaara. This includes establishing workflows for control, monitoring, and actions. Inspections and assessments of rock conditions, documentation, measurement, and follow-up, as well as support to production regarding ongoing and planned mining activities, are also part of the role. Additionally, you will follow the mining sequence according to plan and ensure that the choice of mining methods aligns with rock mechanics criteria. The role also includes a smaller portion of planning, such as designing mine layouts and design adjustments, as well as assisting with rock mechanics issues related to drilling, loading, and blasting.

Education and Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a university or college degree in rock engineering/rock mechanics. Experience in mining operations and rock mechanics issues is advantageous. You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and a class B driver's license for manual transmission. Experience with mining planning software and/or other CAD programs is a plus. For the position, the ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written, is required, as well as an interest in the Swedish language.
