There are about 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We unite in our efforts to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of people.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Gender equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles for all parts of our operations.

The ICOS Carbon Portal (CP) is the data center of the international research infrastructure International Carbon Observation System (ICOS).

ICOS produces long-term high-quality measurements of greenhouse gas exchange in the areas of atmosphere, ecosystems, and oceans. CP develops web services that support the use of data in research. CP is located at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, Lund University.

ICOS is a strongly distributed research infrastructure that requires coordination and continuous development. Further development of technology and observation strategies is a strategic goal for ICOS, often supported through projects funded by the European Commission. Over the years, ICOS has participated in and led many EU projects. All these projects support the development of ICOS, its scientific objectives, and the development of CP as a FAIR data repository and a collaboration platform.

To lead the growing team for software development and operations, ICOS Carbon Portal is looking for an IT Architect who will also act as a team leader. As a team leader, you will be responsible for ensuring that the daily work in the group runs smoothly. The position does not include managerial responsibilities for the group members.

  • data management strategy and its development

Requirements

The successful candidate should have:

  • at least five years of professional experience in software development
  • good knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and Scala
  • documented work experience in developing linked data web services using RDF, SPARQL, OWL ontologies, and triple stores
  • familiarity with Linux server operations
  • fluent English in both spoken and written form
  • work experience in leading a team.

As a person, you have excellent communication skills and are a good team player.

Additional Qualifications

Swedish language skills are an advantage. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will be given to good collaboration skills, drive, and leadership. Affinity with (climate) research is meritorious, as is experience in handling scientific data.

Conditions

This is a permanent position at 100% with a desired start date of May 1, 2025. A probationary period may apply.

We currently have several other vacancies at ICOS Carbon Portal, also advertised on Lund University's website. You must apply for each position individually, but if you are applying for multiple positions, please indicate this in your application along with the order of your interest in the positions.

The announced position will be placed at the Department of Physical Geography and Natural Science within the Faculty of Science in 2025, and will be transferred to the newly established Department of Environmental and Geological Sciences within the same faculty from January 1, 2026.

By bringing together previous activities from the Centre for Environmental and Climate Research, the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, and the Geological Department, the new department will strengthen the connection between different research fields, develop new educational programs, and promote collaboration with society.
