Field Secretary to the Social Administration Hisingen

The Social Administration Hisingen is part of the social services in the City of Gothenburg. We are one of four social administrations. We work purposefully to create a better everyday life for the residents of Hisingen.

We offer support in individual and family care, social emergency services, assistance with addiction, and integration issues. We also work with leisure activities and preventive work, such as public health work, community planning, local safety work, and integration issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you have a strong interest in creating safety for young people in youth environments? Are you also a team player who values consensus and collaboration for the well-being of children and young people? Then this might be the job for you! We are now looking for a new knowledgeable colleague for our field group in Hisingen.

The field group in Hisingen conducts social preventive and outreach work among young people at risk of crime, addiction, and mental health issues. Our target group is children and young people aged 10 to 19 years. We work to strengthen young people's protective factors and prevent social problems. The goal of our work is to create long-term sustainable relationships and ultimately motivate and guide young people to support measures based on individual needs. Reaching young people early is crucial for our approach and central to preventive work.

As a field secretary, you work at the individual, group, and structural levels and with individual assignments, in schools, and outreach in youth environments. In the outreach work, you move in all arenas of young people, such as streets, squares, youth centers, and youth events. You have close collaboration with the area's youth centers and participate in youth center activities to build relationships with young people. You also work outreach and preventively in middle and high schools, where you regularly meet young people and school staff. Since most young people spend a lot of time in school, it serves as the base for relational work and contributes to recognition and legitimacy for field secretaries even outside of school.

As a field secretary, you also work to provide individual support to young people. You have contact with young people at risk, who are often involved in the collaboration form SSPF (school, social services, police, and leisure) on their terms. Since contact with the field secretary is a voluntary and ongoing effort, lasting relationships can be established.

You will be part of an active and engaged unit together with youth counselors, Ung Extra, KAA, and method supervisors.

Working hours are during the day and evening, as well as every third weekend but not on public holidays. You will receive external process supervision and will be based at the social office at Selma Lagerlöfs square or Höstvädersgatan.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or other education deemed equivalent by the employer. We consider it a requirement that you have previous experience working as a field secretary or have otherwise worked outreach with the target group. It is of utmost importance that you are comfortable working outreach as well as at the individual, group, and structural levels. We prefer that you have further education in youth work.

Experience in fieldwork or working with children and youth is an advantage. As a field worker, you work to create long-term sustainable relationships and based on these, offer support measures according to young people's individual needs. Therefore, it is important that you as a field worker have the ability to listen, converse, and positively reinforce young people's own abilities for change and engagement.

You have good skills in supportive and motivational conversations, and it is important that you as a person are unpretentious, have reflective ability, and are curious since contact with young people is based on a voluntary foundation.

It is important that you appreciate a flexible working method that allows the work form to be developed over time. You should enjoy working in youth environments and be comfortable in new and social situations in general. You are also stable and secure, and you handle complex situations well. You should be able to take your own initiative and have the ability to translate theoretical aspects into practical work.
