Veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency on the West Coast
Are you a veterinarian looking to work with animal welfare and food safety? We are currently seeking a veterinarian for the west coast where you will work with a variety of tasks alongside engaged colleagues in a constantly developing organization.
A sustainable employment
The Swedish Food Agency actively works to offer employees sustainable employment. We provide a good introduction when you start with us and offer secure working conditions and good benefits. Wellness grants, subsidized massages, and a generous number of vacation days are some of these. We want you to feel that it is enjoyable to go to work and that what you do is important. As an official veterinarian, you contribute to ensuring that Sweden has good animal welfare and safe food.
A socially important mission
As an official veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency, you contribute to ensuring that Sweden has good animal welfare and safe food. In your work, you will be responsible for live animal inspections and post-slaughter inspections, which involve both animal welfare controls and assessments of whether the meat can be approved as food. You may also work with inspections and audits. The role involves varied tasks, and no two days need to be alike, and you have an important role in contributing to the development of the organization.
As a government official, you have an important mission towards companies. You have a control function but should also act as support and make it easy for companies to do the right thing. You do this, for example, by informing about what good animal welfare means, about the needs of animals and species-specific characteristics, and by helping to create an understanding of hygiene and food safety in food production.
The role also includes governmental reporting, administration, work during inconvenient hours, and some travel.
About the teams and employment
In this role, you will work with both the Poultry Team and the Western Skåne and Halland Team. Both teams are part of the slaughter control unit in southern Sweden. The position means that you will be placed at and primarily staff a facility in Falkenberg. We collaborate across unit boundaries, which means that you may also work at other types of slaughterhouses and game handling facilities. You will be offered an introduction based on your needs and have the opportunity to visit the facilities.
There is some flexibility to adjust scheduling and working hours according to your wishes and needs, but since the facility that primarily needs staffing starts its production early in the morning, it is important to be able to assist with those shifts. Depending on your preferences, there is also the possibility to combine the position with other employment that does not conflict with the assignment at the Swedish Food Agency.
Your competencies
To work as an official veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for professional practice in Sweden. You must also have a B driver's license and good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form, as well as being able to understand and be understood in English. Good administrative skills are also highly valued for this position.
As a person, we would like you to be curious and want to try how it is to contribute to good animal welfare and safe food. You need to be flexible, punctual, and able to make well-founded decisions and take initiatives. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development and can see and contribute to the whole. You dare to make the decisions required in consultation with your colleagues and supervisor. The team is characterized by strong team spirit, which provides great opportunities for development both in subject matters and from a holistic perspective.
You have good collaboration skills and enjoy creating good relationships. We are interested in your knowledge and experience, which you are happy to share. At the same time, you are open to learning from others, as it is together with colleagues that you succeed and develop. Conversations in meetings with entrepreneurs and in contact with other stakeholders are also part of the job, which requires you to be clear, professional, and attentive in your communication. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
