Legal Intern Wanted at Umeå District Court
Are you studying law and curious about judicial clerkship and working in court? Are you considering a future in the legal system? As a legal intern with us, you will gain insight into the various tasks of the district court and general training in practical law. Regardless of your future career plans, an internship at the district court is a valuable experience to understand the court process and the legal system as a whole.
Who are we
At Umeå District Court, over 80 people work, and it is a general court as well as one of five district courts in the country that serves as an environmental court. The general division of the court is administratively coordinated with the Rent and Lease Board in Umeå, which is one of eight boards in the country.
The general division of the court handles criminal cases, civil cases, court matters, and bankruptcies. The environmental court processes, as the first instance, issues such as permits for environmentally hazardous activities and water activities, and reviews decisions under various laws including the Environmental Code, the Land Consolidation Act, and the Planning and Building Act.
We are now looking for legal interns
We are now looking for legal interns for both periods during the autumn semester of 2025, for both the general division and the environmental court. Please indicate in your application which division you are interested in interning with.
The internship entails
The tasks as an intern largely correspond to those performed by newly hired clerks at the district court. You will prepare cases and matters, take minutes during hearings, conduct legal research, and draft proposals for judgments and decisions.
Application
Applicants should have completed at least 6 semesters of the law program. In your application, please attach your CV, transcripts from your law studies, and a cover letter explaining why you want to intern with us and which division you are interested in. Also, specify the weeks during which you will be doing your internship.
Every day, hundreds of cases and matters are decided in courts across Sweden. Our organization consists of employees with various competencies, each of whom is important in maintaining legal certainty and high quality at all levels.
