Urban Planner at the Community Planning Unit in Arboga Municipality

Do you want to contribute to a sustainable society and have a strong interest in community planning? Then you might be the one we are looking for at the Community Planning Unit in Arboga Municipality!

The position is organized under the Community Planning Unit within the municipal executive office but works with the entire group's operations. The Community Planning Unit plays a central role in the municipality's growth and development. The unit is in an expansive phase and now needs to be expanded with additional staff. Currently, the unit consists of seven employees and a unit manager. The unit is responsible for physical planning, land and development, strategic urban development projects, traffic planning, environmental and climate issues, as well as GIS and maps.

About Arboga Municipality: Arboga Municipality is part of Western Mälardalen and has a strategically geographical location close to Örebro, Västerås, and Eskilstuna. There are good infrastructure connections with two European roads and the railway lines Mälar and Svealandsbanan. Arboga offers an attractive living environment with a historic town center, proximity to nature and water, as well as a safe and inspiring environment. The municipality has a long history of military activity. The Armed Forces, the defense industry, and the municipality are the largest employers here.

Job Responsibilities

As an urban planner, you will collaborate broadly within the group and be a key player in the municipality's physical planning. You will drive community planning projects, primarily the development of detailed plans according to the Planning and Building Act. You will also conduct investigations, develop policies and strategies, and manage referrals, motions, and citizen proposals. In the role of urban planner, you will also provide advice and support to politicians, civil servants, and the public on planning issues. Furthermore, you will participate in development projects and workshops both internally and externally with other municipalities, authorities, and organizations, as well as represent the municipality in various external contexts and contribute to the unit's operational development.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a relevant academic education in community/urban planning or other equivalent education or experience that the employer deems equivalent. You have good knowledge of the Planning and Building Act and other relevant legislation such as the Environmental Code. Experience from municipal operations is an advantage.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in developing the community planning process and physical planning. You have a strong ability to collaborate and build relationships. You have good communication and pedagogical skills and the ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. You are a good problem solver and have strong analytical skills with an eye for detail. Another quality you possess is the ability to adapt to changing conditions and new challenges within projects.

Conditions

Full-time, permanent. Start date according to agreement.
