Do you want to work in a dynamic and challenging environment where your medical expertise can make a difference both nationally and internationally? The Defense Medicine Center in Gothenburg is now seeking an experienced surgeon for an exciting and varied position at the Hospital Battalion. Here you will have the opportunity to work with advanced trauma care in the field, lead medical operations under demanding conditions, and contribute to the development of healthcare capacity within the Armed Forces.
Defense Medicine Center
The Defense Medicine Center is the Armed Forces' center for the function of defense medicine, located in Gothenburg. Our mission is to provide the Armed Forces with qualified personnel within healthcare, and additionally, the mission includes the development and supply of medical materials and pharmaceuticals. The Hospital Battalion operates as the Armed Forces' operational field hospital unit with operational capability both nationally and internationally, emphasizing leadership, logistics, and healthcare. Furthermore, the unit conducts conscription training. The personnel categories present in the unit include medical staff, officers, soldiers, and conscripts.
Main Responsibilities
As a physician, you will independently and with limited resources make advanced surgical assessments and treatments based on the patient's individual needs and sometimes complex injuries. The professional role also includes triaging patients in the acute phase. The work can take place under pressured working conditions, and the work environments are physically challenging. Work in the trauma team primarily occurs pre-hospital, and parts of the working hours are spent abroad in international military operations. When you are not in active duty, you will conduct training both as a student and instructor, participate in exercises, and plan for upcoming operations.
Qualifications
- Licensed physician with a specialization in surgery. Knowledge must be current.
- Experience in trauma management.
- Good ability to express yourself in spoken and written English and Swedish.
- Fully healthy and meets the requirements in FMFysS.
- Driving license B

Meritorious
- Military basic training such as completed conscription, Basic Soldier Training for International Service (GSU INT), Basic Military Training (GMU), or Basic Soldier Training (GSU).
- Previous military service abroad.
Other
Employment type: Permanent. A six-month probationary period applies.
Employment rate: Full-time. Travel both nationally and internationally may occur, as well as evening and weekend duties.
Work location: Gothenburg
Start date: By agreement.
Salary: Individual salary setting.
The employment entails a military placement at the Hospital Battalion.
