Department of Health, Learning, and Technology

The Department of Health, Learning, and Technology is an academic meeting place where scientific perspectives on knowledge about learning and health are brought together. The department offers degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in several subjects. The Department of Pedagogy, Language, and Subject Didactics has extensive activities in research, development, and teaching within basic education, advanced education, commissioned education, and independent courses related to teacher education and the subject of English. The department intends to strengthen subject competence in the area of language and literature with a didactic focus by hiring a university lecturer in English. The position is located at the Department of Pedagogy, Language, and Subject Didactics at the campus in Luleå.

Subject Description

English as a scientific field focuses on research in both English linguistics and literature, where the didactics of the subject is studied alongside the English language and its literary and cultural expressions. Research includes vocabulary learning and collaborative writing, as well as sustainable perspectives on the role of literature in second language teaching. We contribute to a strong research environment in the didactic field through close collaboration with other research subjects within teacher education. English with a didactic focus is part of the practice-oriented graduate school (PROFS) that the university conducts in collaboration with nearby municipalities and Region Norrbotten and is also an important part of the university's strategic area of Learning.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities will primarily consist of teaching in programs at the basic level within teacher education and in independent courses. English is a central part of the educational science core in the various programs within teacher education at Luleå University of Technology, and teaching in these courses is therefore included in the job responsibilities. Teaching in independent English courses, including courses aimed at exchange students, is also part of the responsibilities, as well as teaching within the primary teacher program with a focus on language and knowledge-developing methods, as well as language, writing, and reading development. You are expected to actively participate in the department's work, in program and course development, and to follow the research developments in the linguistic field nationally and internationally. The position also includes responsibility for and active participation in collaboration with external actors in the surrounding community.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a university lecturer is someone who:

• has completed a higher education degree of at least 180 higher education credits or equivalent.
• has demonstrated pedagogical skill.

For employment as a university lecturer, relevant education in the subject is required. A teaching degree is an advantage. Particularly advantageous is experience working with language and knowledge-developing methods as well as language, writing, and reading development in English in primary school. Experience teaching at a university/college, on campus, and via distance technology is also advantageous. Good knowledge of oral and written communication in Swedish and very good knowledge of English are highly valued, as well as good collaboration skills and the ability to work independently. Great importance will be placed on your personal qualities.
