Research Assistant for the Program in Zooecology

Project Description

We have been using black-and-white and collar flycatchers as models to study various ecological and evolutionary questions since 1980 and have collected large datasets on reproductive success, phenotypic traits, and blood samples for DNA analyses. These samples are used in a wide range of research projects focusing on partner choice, life history evolution, aging processes, climate adaptations, and speciation.

Responsibilities

The research assistant will be responsible for updating the systems used to organize blood and tissue samples, performing DNA extractions, and data management.

Qualifications

A Master's degree or equivalent foreign degree in biology or a related field. Previous experience in any type of fieldwork (i.e., sampling) and laboratory work such as DNA extractions is essential for the position.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities such as being well-organized and structured at work. The candidate must have a very good ability to express themselves in English and/or Swedish, both orally and in writing.

Meritorious

Previous experience of fieldwork with birds is desirable but not a requirement.

About the Employment

The position is temporary for 12 months. The extent is full-time/100%. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
