Environmental Strategy Unit

The Environmental Strategy Unit is one of five units in the Environmental Department of the County Administrative Board.

We work together on environmental issues from a regional, strategic perspective. Our mission is to work with water management, reassessment of hydropower, and water strategic work in the county. We also coordinate and lead the work with the County Administrative Board's environmental goal assignments, energy and climate assignments, as well as the board's work with environmental monitoring. We also manage state support for climate investments (climate leap), local nature conservation initiatives (LONA), and local water care projects (LOVA).

Job Responsibilities

As a key person in the County Administrative Board's work for improved water quality, you will play an important role in the work with the EU Water Framework Directive and in promoting the environmental goal of Living Lakes and Watercourses. Your tasks will mainly consist of two parts: working with water management in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive, which involves carrying out assignments for the Water Authority, and developing work related to the environmental goal Living Lakes and Watercourses. Depending on your expertise, the work may also include tasks related to environmental toxins.

• Independently map and analyze the environmental condition of inland and coastal waters.
• Propose measures required to improve environmental conditions.

In addition to regulations, guidelines, and data from environmental monitoring programs, you will have a working group consisting of five colleagues with many years of experience in water management and environmental goal work.

The position may also include work with other tasks within the Environmental Department's area of activity, such as supporting strategic work with environmental monitoring.

Qualifications

You have a degree in environmental or natural sciences at the university level, or experience that we consider equivalent.

It is an advantage to have:

• education focused on environmental toxicology, or experience that we consider equivalent
• experience working with water management according to the EU Water Framework Directive within public administration
• experience with issues related to environmental toxins, preferably in water
• knowledge of GIS, accustomed to handling large datasets.

As a person, you should be self-driven and have a structured working method, and you should also be able to adapt to changing conditions. Since the tasks involve collaboration both internally and externally, you need to have good teamwork skills and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

You represent the County Administrative Board in a trustworthy manner. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

Conditions

The employment is temporary (substitute) starting as soon as possible until 2026-05-15. Your job title at the authority will be case officer.
