Developer at the National Library of Sweden
Do you want to help drive the change of Sweden's digital cultural heritage and develop modern, innovative technical solutions?
We are currently looking for two developers who want to be part of developing systems for the collection, preservation, and accessibility of Sweden's digital cultural heritage (two different ads). You will participate in the migration to a modern container-based platform and work on improving the management of the National Library of Sweden's (KB's) extensive collections of text and audiovisual material.
KB has a unique digital collection that offers fantastic opportunities for development and innovation, including utilizing the AI capabilities that KB develops through KB-lab. With us, you will have the opportunity to work with socially important services to secure Sweden's cultural heritage.
Become a part of the exciting technical development journey at the National Library of Sweden!
Responsibilities
As a developer at KB, you will be involved in the development and maintenance of systems that collect, preserve, and make accessible Sweden's digital cultural heritage. You will work in a team with other developers, UX designers, business specialists, and product leaders. You will be involved in the entire development chain from analysis, design, and development to testing and maintenance, and you will work with various systems at KB. We work in agile teams with a strong focus on personal responsibility and a desire to continuously improve our operations and services to our users.
Your responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining systems for the collection, preservation, and provision of digital material
- Contributing to how we work with container-based development at KB
- Participating in the development of systems to streamline KB's work in collecting, preserving, and providing Sweden's digital cultural heritage.
- Collaborating in cross-functional teams with both technical and business-oriented expertise
The Team
At KB, there are over 25 developers distributed across five teams, each working towards their own domain and area of operations. As KB is at the beginning of a transformation and change journey, we are hiring for the unit, and depending on preferences and profiles, as well as what is prioritized for KB's operations, team affiliation may vary. Our development teams work closely together, and even though we focus on different areas, we are helpful and take time for each other. We are all located in KB's premises in Humlegården, with the opportunity to work from home up to three days a week.
In the team, we have close collaboration with business specialists, UX/design, and product leaders. Each team has a backlog that guides the team's priorities and daily work. The teams work agilely with three-week sprints and have regular hackathons to explore new technologies and solutions. As a developer at KB, you have a great opportunity to influence the choices we make now and in the future.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone who is responsible, enjoys working with others, and solving problems in a group while also being able to drive their own initiatives and work independently. As a developer at KB, you are expected to collaborate with others both within and outside your team. You are quick to learn and contribute to a learning work environment where we together develop and test new ways to solve tasks. We also believe that you are fascinated by data, enjoy large datasets, and have encountered data flows before.
To succeed in this role, you need:
- Relevant academic education or vocational training in IT (at least two years) or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.
- At least 5 years of work experience in system development
- Documented experience in programming in Python
- Documented experience with container technologies, preferably Kubernetes
- Knowledge of version control with Git
- Very good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English

- Experience working with search engines, e.g., ElasticSearch
- Knowledge and experience in programming in Java
- Experience working with large-scale data management and data flows
- Experience with CI/CD and automated testing
- Experience working collaboratively in agile teams
Great emphasis is placed on your personal attributes.
