Together we develop Sahlgrenska University Hospital for a sustainable future

We are transforming healthcare with the goal of becoming Europe’s leading university hospital by 2032. Together with our patients, we work towards quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, education, and innovation – in a cohesive healthcare system in the Västra Götaland region. Our vision and goals aim for care of the highest quality, where the patient is always in focus. We provide healthcare locally and regionally, as well as highly specialized care to patients across the country and abroad. Our employees are our strength and contribute to knowledge exchange nationally and internationally. With digital tools and new working methods, we can simplify everyday life at the hospital and offer modern, accessible, and efficient care of the highest quality.

Description

This position is a temporary role for a shared position between LARO Olskroken and the Needle Exchange Clinic.

We work with medication-assisted treatment for opioid dependence, where the LARO Olskroken clinic is one of four outpatient clinics within the LARO operations at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Additionally, we have a day care focused on patients who need extended psychosocial support. At LARO Olskroken, we meet patients in the rehabilitation phase of their treatment, focusing on creating stability and improving their quality of life.

In 2021, a collaboration with the needle exchange clinic was initiated. Staff from LARO are on site to actively work on harm reduction. It is a very successful collaboration that benefits our patient group!

The needle exchange is a drop-in clinic open to individuals with intravenous substance use. The clinic distributes injection tools, naloxone for opioid overdoses, and conducts testing and vaccination for HIV/hepatitis. The focus of the operation is to prevent the spread of infections and reduce harm from active substance use. Motivational conversations are held daily to enhance the patient's quality of life and further coordination for those patients who wish. As a social worker, you will be part of two separate working groups in your shared role. At LARO, you will work alongside nurses, psychologists, and doctors at the clinic. At the needle exchange, the team consists of nurses, nursing assistants, midwives, infectious disease specialists, and addiction doctors. We all belong to interdisciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive the best possible care and treatment. Join us in working on harm reduction with the individual’s needs in focus. Our work makes a difference!

Responsibilities

As a social worker at LARO, you have a flexible job that alternates between a drop-in clinic and more structured outpatient work.

Mornings at the clinic are busy with visits, and you work closely with other colleagues in our medical clinic. Afternoons allow for individual patient conversations, collaborative work/SIP, and relevant meetings. As a social worker, you are responsible for psychosocial assessments and treatment work. You will work motivationally with the patient regarding their needs and be the connecting link between internal and external care providers and others in the patient's network. Documentation is done in our journal system, Melior. Work hours are during weekdays.

As a social worker at the needle exchange clinic, you will be available for patients wishing to visit the drop-in service. You will refer to other professionals and partners as needed and meet the patient where they are at the moment.

What can we offer you as a candidate?

With us, you will receive an individually tailored introduction and mentorship. Experienced colleagues will support you in settling into your new role, and we offer internal training regarding opioid dependence. In the Dependency Operations area, we have an ongoing training initiative regarding MI (motivational interviewing) and relapse prevention. An active network of social workers exists within the clinic.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or equivalent education. We prefer candidates who are licensed healthcare social workers. Experience in addiction care and/or psychiatry is advantageous, as is experience in relapse prevention work, motivational interviewing, and/or previous work with harm reduction initiatives. Experience with the Melior documentation system is desirable. The work requires personal maturity. It is important to us that you have an empathetic approach towards our patients. In this recruitment, we place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Warm welcome to submit your application!
