Welcome to Askebyskolan
Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.
Askebyskolan is a F - 6 school with approximately 330 students, including an adapted primary school (about 30 students), a local special education group F-3, and around 70 staff.
The school is located in Rinkeby and has suitable facilities about 5 minutes from the subway. The school is in a development phase where the focus is on a language-developing approach, leadership and stimulation, as well as aesthetic learning processes. Our common overall idea is aesthetic learning processes, and we have a strong belief in the importance of aesthetics for deep knowledge and whole individuals - the student's access to all languages and forms of expression.
We are proud of our beautiful and well-equipped library, and as our current librarian is retiring, we are looking for someone who wants to continue developing the library as a pedagogical tool.
Your Role
As a librarian in the school library, you have a pedagogical assignment based on the city's school library plan and the school's other governing documents. It is about strengthening students' language skills and digital competence. The work involves many contacts with students and staff at the school.
Your main tasks include:
- initiating, planning, and implementing various reading-promoting activities linked to LGR22 and LGRA22 together with the teachers at the school and independently. This includes, for example, literature presentations, book discussions, and other activities to awaken and strengthen students' reading enthusiasm and language skills.
- working pedagogically with media and information literacy. This means, for example, teaching source and search criticism as well as library and internet literacy. You keep yourself updated through professional development and continuous monitoring of these areas.
- supporting students in need of adapted reading by providing audiobooks and easy-to-read media. Promoting reading in students' mother tongues and strengthening multilingualism is a prioritized area, as is making visible the national minority languages.
- being responsible for purchasing, weeding, and other maintenance of media to create a relevant and appealing selection in the school library. The school library should offer a wide range of media and activities that contribute to education, broaden perspectives, and strengthen students' learning related to governing documents.
Your Competence and Experience
We are looking for someone who has:
- a degree in library and information science, librarian degree
- previous documented experience working in a similar role
- good ability to express yourself in the Swedish language, both orally and in writing
It is meritorious if you have:
- experience working in a multicultural area
- experience with language-developing approaches
- experience leading groups
- experience with aesthetic learning processes
- experience working with adapted primary school
To succeed in the role of librarian, you enjoy working with children and young people and are curious about their learning. You are proactive and have the ability to develop an active and structured school library operation in collaboration with other educational staff.
Furthermore, you have good knowledge of current children's and youth literature and can inspire reading. You have high digital competence and can instruct and guide students and educators in the use of digital tools and information sources. You have a good ability to collaborate with both adults and students and create opportunities for them to participate in the school library's activities.
You should be able to express yourself clearly and pedagogically and adapt your approach and communication style to the recipient. You see it as a given to keep yourself continuously updated in your area of expertise.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Other
In the city of Stockholm, you have access to a well-developed network for librarians and professional development through Medioteket. The position also includes some reading/planning time.
