Legal Advisor at the Coast Guard
The Coast Guard is a civil governmental preparedness authority responsible for maritime surveillance and environmental rescue services at sea on behalf of the government and parliament. During preparedness for environmental rescue, we work preventively with environmental monitoring while promoting a sustainable marine environment. We also conduct supervision and control of fishing, customs, border control, hunting, and nature conservation at sea. Furthermore, we work to enhance safety through maritime traffic monitoring and maintain constant readiness for search and rescue operations. Description
The Coast Guard is seeking a legal advisor for the legal and security unit, based in Karlskrona or Gothenburg.
As a legal advisor, your main responsibilities will include providing internal legal advice alongside other lawyers, primarily concerning the Coast Guard's responsibilities for maritime rescue services and maritime surveillance.
Maritime surveillance includes coordination and dissemination of maritime information, control and supervision activities within customs and border control, police monitoring and maintenance of order, as well as crime-fighting activities. The advice also encompasses issues related to civil protection and total defense, public access and confidentiality, administrative law, labor law, contract law, procurement, personal data processing and data protection, as well as information security, operational security, and maritime safety.
Your tasks will also include monitoring national, EU, and international legal developments within the authority's area, developing and revising the authority's governing documents, and conducting legal quality reviews of decisions and other documents prepared within the authority.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have a law degree (jur.kand.) and several years of experience in qualified legal work. Experience in the Coast Guard's operational area and expertise in legal work related to administrative law, information exchange, data protection, public access and confidentiality, or maritime law is advantageous. The same applies to several years of experience working within the judiciary or another government agency that collaborates with the Coast Guard or has similar responsibilities and tasks.
To succeed in this role, you need to approach your tasks with a solution-focused mindset and flexibility. You have a good ability to quickly switch between different tasks. You are outgoing and thrive in social settings, possess good collaboration skills, and can adapt your communication style to the situation and the person. At the same time, you are independent, self-motivated, and highly engaged in your work. You are structured with strong analytical and administrative skills. You express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. When hiring, we place great emphasis on your personal qualities and abilities.
Conditions
The position is a permanent employment with an initial probationary period of six months. Start date is to be agreed upon.
Work location: Karlskrona or Gothenburg.
Business travel is included in the employment, both domestically and internationally.
For employment, Swedish citizenship, a driver's license for passenger cars, a drug test, and a security clearance according to the Security Protection Act are required. Tests will be conducted as part of the recruitment process.
The Coast Guard participates in overseas missions and international operations. Therefore, the position includes an obligation to serve abroad when required for the operation.
In the case of permanent employment, there is also an obligation to be placed in a war role.
