About the role

In an international context, e.g., within the UN, EU, and NATO, the position is called Gender Advisor (GENAD). The Armed Forces have worked for some time with gender equality issues in several areas, including personal equipment, working environment, and gender equality in military operations and missions.

At our staff, you are responsible for gender mainstreaming and ensure that a gender perspective is integrated from the planning stage of operations.

You should have experience with gender mainstreaming, enjoy developing methods and processes, and be motivated by creating structure, clarity, and value for others.

As a GENAD, you will be responsible for the processes for gender mainstreaming at CFL. The work involves close collaboration with many colleagues.

Main responsibilities:

• Advising the head of CFL on gender equality in military operations, including UN Resolution 1325
• Develop processes and working methods together with other personnel at CFL and subject matter experts to integrate perspectives related to gender equality in military operations
• Support other personnel at CFL with expertise in gender equality in military operations, primarily within operations and defense planning
• Represent the organization in internal and external cooperation, e.g., with ministries, other authorities, and in international contexts
• Cooperate with other advisors and case handlers working on gender equality in the Swedish Armed Forces, especially with the Defense Staff's advisors on gender equality in military operations at the military strategic level
• Convene and coordinate resource persons regarding gender equality in military operations (Gender Focal Points) within CFL

We are looking for you who meet the following requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent officer education
• Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish & English
• Relevant upper secondary education or experience that the employer considers equivalent
• Very good computer skills

It is meritorious if you have:

• Master's degree in a subject relevant to the position, such as social sciences, gender studies, or human rights
• Experience as an advisor on gender equality in military operations (GENAD) or as a Gender Focal Point (GFP) in the Swedish Armed Forces, NATO, or an international organization
• Current and relevant previous work experience within the Swedish Armed Forces or another authority or organization dealing with total defense and security issues
• Current and relevant previous work experience with the Swedish Armed Forces' or NATO's military planning processes, preferably at the military strategic or operational level
• Current and relevant previous work experience in international humanitarian law/laws of war

Information about the recruiting unit:
The Chief of Defence and the Director General are located at the Headquarters (HQ). The HQ has approximately 1,000 employees – both career officers and civilian experts. As of 2023-01-01, the HQ consists of the Defense Staff, the Operations Command, the Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the HQ's staff department and independent supervision units.
Employment with us entails placement in a security class. Swedish citizenship is usually required. Security clearance with register check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment entails an obligation to be war-placed. The employment also includes an obligation to serve abroad. The meaning of this varies depending on the type of position. A CV and personal letter must be attached to the application for employment.
