A sustainable employment

The Swedish Food Agency works actively to offer all employees a sustainable employment. We provide you with a good introduction when you start with us, and we offer secure working conditions. We want you to feel that it is fun to go to work, and that what you do is important. As an Official Veterinarian, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food.

As a veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency, you have independent work, but when facing difficult decisions and situations, your knowledgeable colleagues are just a call away. Here you become part of a team where we help and support each other in daily work. Together we make a difference!

A socially important mission

As an Official Veterinarian, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food. In the work, you are responsible for live animal inspection and post-mortem inspection, but export control may also be included. Depending on your experience and personal qualities, other tasks may also become relevant, such as investigations, support work, or handling more complex issues within control.

As a public authority official, you have an important mission towards the business owner. You have a control function, but you must also act as support and facilitate for the business owner to do the right thing. You do this by informing about what good animal welfare entails, the animals' needs and species-specific characteristics, and by helping to create an understanding of hygiene and food safety in food production. The role also includes authority reporting, administration, and a fair amount of car travel.

About the team

You will belong to the team West Scania and Halland. Here you work together with engaged and nice colleagues, both official veterinarians and food controllers. We are a cheerful and open-hearted group that takes advantage of our individual and common strengths.

The team's facilities, which mainly consist of a large pig slaughterhouse and a medium-sized cattle and sheep slaughterhouse, as well as several smaller slaughterhouses and game handling facilities, are located from Trelleborg in the south to Kungsbacka in the north. The team has close cooperation with the poultry team and FBO (Food Business Operator) control during slaughter and export control.

Your competencies

To work as an Official Veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for professional practice in Sweden. You must also have a B driver's license, good knowledge of Swedish, and be able to understand and make yourself understood in English. Good administrative skills and IT knowledge are also highly valued for this position. Experience with public authority exercise, control work, and export handling is meritorious.

As a person, you need to be unpretentious, flexible, punctual, efficient, and able to make your own well-founded decisions and initiatives. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, and you can see and contribute to the whole. You dare to make the decisions required in consultation with your colleagues and manager. You have good cooperation skills and help unpretentiously where needed. You keep yourself updated on the latest in your field of knowledge and are happy to share your knowledge and experience, while also being open to learning from others. It is together with your colleagues that you succeed and develop! Conversations in meetings with business owners and in contact with other stakeholders are also part of the work, which requires that you are clear, professional, and responsive in your communication. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
