Investigator with a Focus on Prostitution and Human Trafficking

The goal of gender equality work in Sweden is for women and men to have equal power and opportunities to shape society and their own lives. The work covers issues such as influence, economy, health, education, employment, and bodily integrity.

The Swedish Gender Equality Agency shall ensure that the government’s gender equality policy takes effect by contributing to its effective implementation. The Agency’s task is to coordinate, monitor, and provide support in various ways within the field of gender equality. The Swedish Gender Equality Agency is an hbtqi-strategic authority, meaning it must promote equal rights and opportunities for hbtqi people in its operations.

The National Coordination Unit against Prostitution and Human Trafficking (NSPM) is part of the coordination department for preventing and combating men’s violence against women. It also works on violence prevention, violence against children and young people, and honour-based violence and oppression.

The unit’s coordination responsibility involves developing and promoting collaboration between relevant authorities and other actors to ensure effective work against prostitution and human trafficking. The unit shall also provide support to authorities through methodological guidance and competence development to strengthen their work in this area and contribute to the development of preventive measures against prostitution and human trafficking for all purposes. This includes convening and leading the National Methodological Support Team (NMT) to coordinate efforts and ensure knowledge exchange. The unit also staffs a support hotline for professionals who encounter individuals exposed to prostitution and human trafficking, offering practical guidance and support.

We are now looking for one or possibly several investigators for the NSPM unit.

Responsibilities

As an investigator, you will work based on the authority’s directives, regulatory letters, and various government assignments, primarily focusing on prostitution and human trafficking.

Your responsibilities include serving as a subject matter expert both internally and towards external stakeholders. You are expected to participate in and contribute to various networks to develop more effective collaboration between authorities and other organizations. The role involves some international contacts and meetings.

The position also includes leading and facilitating larger gatherings and meetings, driving processes, and collaborating with external partners. You are expected to be able to write and produce substantial amounts of text, such as official comments, interim reports, and final reports to the government.

The tasks are varied and offer significant opportunity for impact and influence. You are expected to work largely in teams while independently driving projects from start to finish.

Qualifications

• An academic degree in a field the employer considers relevant for the position.

• Several years of documented operational experience working against prostitution, human trafficking/human exploitation, men’s violence against women, and/or intimate partner violence.

• Experience working strategically, project-oriented, and independently.

• Knowledge of the field of prostitution, human trafficking/human exploitation, men’s violence against women, and intimate partner violence.

• Strong ability to communicate clearly in both Swedish and English, orally and in writing.

• Good knowledge of Swedish gender equality policy.

The following qualifications are considered meritorious

• Experience with strategic work at a state authority.

• Experience with authority decision-making in cases related to men’s violence against women, intimate partner violence, or prostitution and human trafficking.

• Experience writing reports and official submissions.

• Experience working in international contexts at a strategic level.

• Specialized experience working with children and young people in vulnerable situations.

Meritorious qualifications mean that meeting the following requirements is an advantage, but they are not mandatory to be considered for the position.

Employment Information

This is a permanent full-time position located at the Swedish Gender Equality Agency’s office in central Gothenburg. We apply a six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement. Travel may be required.
