Nurse for Thorax Ward at Heart Centre in Umeå

The Heart Centre in Umeå aims to provide the best care for heart patients in northern Sweden. We offer highly specialized cardiac care and hold overall responsibility for the region's patients.

Our services include the Cardiovascular Clinic, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiac Intervention, the Arrhythmia Unit, Clinical Physiology, and the Centre for Cardiovascular Genetics. We diagnose, treat, and operate on patients from across northern Sweden with heart, lung, and coronary diseases. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, efficient care pathways, continuous improvement, and a highly competent team, we deliver care of very high quality. Approximately 400 staff members work at the Heart Centre.

On the Thorax Ward, 50 staff members – nurses, nursing assistants, and healthcare support personnel – work together to provide patient care. We specialize in caring for patients undergoing surgery for heart, vascular, and lung conditions. Patients receive care both before and after surgery across our 18 beds. As a regional centre, we treat patients from the northernmost counties and perform over 1,000 surgeries annually.

We are now seeking two nurses for our team

Responsibilities

As a nurse here, you will help care for others and improve people's well-being.

• Patient care, documentation, medication management, and monitoring of vital parameters, among other duties.
• Work both independently and collaboratively with other healthcare staff in a patient-safe manner.
• Contribute to development projects and supervise students.

At the Thorax Ward, we value personal development. We offer themed training days, internal education, and after some time on the ward, opportunities to rotate to intermediate care as well as apply for an intensive care nurse aspirant program.

Qualifications

• Licensed nurse (RN).
• Previous experience in cardiac or surgical care is meritorious but not required.
• Excellent teamwork skills. We expect you to work independently while remaining structured and skilled at prioritizing tasks.
• Strong communication skills with both patients and colleagues.

Employment Terms & Conditions

• Type of employment: Fixed-term contract.
• Duration: 6 months or longer. Start: 2026-09-01 (or by agreement). End: 2027-08-31.
• Working hours: Scheduled work according to the duty roster.
