The Faculty of Health, Natural and Technology Sciences is seeking a teaching assistant in mechanical engineering at the Department of Engineering Physics and Industrial Engineering. A teaching assistant is a student who, alongside their studies, works part-time with tasks such as laboratory supervision, tutoring, or administration related to ongoing courses.
The Department of Engineering Physics and Industrial Engineering, characterized by a pleasant, inspiring, and international atmosphere with staff from all over the world, has approximately 60 employees. We offer, among other programs, undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Innovation Technology & Design, and Electrical Engineering; graduate programs in Industrial Economics, Mechanical Engineering, and Technical Physics; as well as doctoral education in Industrial Economics, Materials Technology, and Physics.
The department hosts a student project, Formula Student, where students design and build a race car alongside their studies. The project runs for one year, and the team competes under a set of rules with international competition. The student group is organized as a team named Clear River Racing.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities consist of project management and coordination of the Formula Student project.
In this role, you will participate, in consultation with the university's advisor, in recruiting a leadership team for the project (group leaders for various sub-groups within the project). You will hold regular meetings with this leadership team throughout the project.
The work involves responsibility for the continuation of sponsor activities. You are also responsible for ensuring that invoices are coded and paid on time.
You are responsible for ensuring that project members follow the university's regulations and policies, and maintain good relationships with external parties.
You are also responsible for preparing and submitting any necessary competition documentation on time.
You will become part of the department and are expected to attend meetings and communicate with both university staff and students in the project.
To contribute to a good work environment and the development of operations, we encourage you to be present and contribute to the daily work and community, according to the agreed extent with the study director and based on the scope of employment.
Qualifications
Only those admitted to undergraduate or advanced level studies may be employed as teaching assistants (HF 5th Chapter, Section 10). You must be admitted to one of the engineering programs at Karlstad University and have completed at least four semesters, with study time remaining for graduation at least equal to the length of the employment.
Assessment Criteria
It is of particular importance that you have good academic results. We also place special emphasis on good collaboration skills, as well as the ability to independently drive and complete assigned tasks within the set timeframe. It is of great importance that you have good oral and written skills in both Swedish and English, good administrative skills, and a commitment to the operations.
Terms
The employment is fixed-term and covers 5–10% of full-time work. The location of work may vary over time and is arranged by agreement. The tasks are primarily performed on-site at Karlstad University. The employment is fixed-term for the autumn semester 2026, with a start date of 2026-08-10 or by agreement, but no later than 2027-08-31. Extension may be possible.
