What will you be working with?
As an Investigator in the Microbiology Division, you will work with infectious agents in risk classes 3 and 4. A large part of the work is carried out in safety laboratories, containment levels 3 and 4.
The role includes:
- Experimental biomedicine: Studies of pathogenesis and immunoreactivity, as well as evaluation of vaccine candidates.
- Serological and molecular biological analyses: Neutralization tests, ELISA, immunofluorescence, qPCR.
- Cell biological work: Cell culture, virus production, infection studies, and vaccine testing.
- Cloning, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins (Western blot, mass spectrometry).
- Safety and quality: Documentation, risk assessments, and training.
- Collaboration: Close cooperation with researchers, actors within the healthcare sector, as well as national and international partners.
- Reporting: Compile and author results in scientific publications, internal reports, and presentations.
- Protocol development: Contribute to standardized protocols and guidelines for diagnostics and research.
- Readiness: Participate in acute outbreak investigations as needed.
In addition to the above duties, other tasks within the division's and the agency's mandate may become relevant.
Who are we looking for?
Requirements for the position:
- Medical/scientific education at the master's level or equivalent, which the agency deems relevant for the position.
Beyond this, we view the following competencies, skills, and experiences as important for you to thrive with us:
Great emphasis is placed on:
- Personal qualities such as excellent teamwork skills, responsibility, attention to detail, flexibility, and good communication skills. You have a holistic perspective and a good manner of dealing with people.
- Experience in experimental biomedicine.
- Experience working with virus cultures and molecular biological methods.
Significant emphasis is placed on:
- Research experience of at least three years after completing an advanced degree or doctorate in a relevant field.
- Experience working in safety laboratories with containment levels 3 or 4.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
What does the unit do?
The unit is responsible for readiness and infectious disease diagnostics of bacterial and viral pathogens. The unit has 24/7 readiness for diseases of a serious nature that are dangerous to the public or society, where the possibility of cure or prevention is limited and there is a risk of infection.
The unit is also responsible for the operational management of the safety laboratory. The responsibility includes training and preparation for work in the laboratory, support for the development and implementation of diagnostics regarding highly pathogenic viruses, as well as the execution and coordination of research in and in connection with the safety laboratory.

About the employment
You will be employed as an Investigator with placement at our office in Solna. The employment is a permanent full-time position starting with a six-month probation period. Start date is as soon as possible according to agreement.
As an employee of the Public Health Agency, you may be assigned to wartime duties. Some positions are classified security levels where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. Security clearance will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
