Vivant Care – Safe Children (Trygga Barn)
Vivant Care is currently seeking 5 therapeutic foster homes and/or emergency foster homes for placement assignments within the "Safe Children" (Trygga Barn) program. The assignment involves receiving children placed by social services.
The compensation consists of a fee and expense allowance. The compensation is determined by the responsible social services authority prior to each assignment and is based on the child's needs and the scope of the assignment. Compensation is paid for the duration of the assignment.
About the Operation
Safe Children is a family and emergency foster care operation that receives placements of children who, for various reasons, need to be placed in foster homes. The children's needs can vary in scope, ranging from minor issues to significant needs for interventions.
Safe Children is the first foster care operation in Sweden where all placed children are assigned a child advocate (barnombud). The child advocate's main task is to ensure the quality of foster care, prevent misconduct, ensure the child's participation in their own care, and prevent placement breakdowns.
The operation has specialist competence in attachment theory, narcissistic abuse, dissociation, substance abuse, the Support and Service Act for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS), and crime.
All foster homes and emergency foster homes within the operation are offered continuous education, supervision, and relief. Each individual foster home is assigned a specific contact person in the form of a foster care consultant for ongoing support.
About the Assignment
The assignment becomes active when a child is placed by social services. If there is a need for an adult to be home full-time, there may be an opportunity for compensation for lost income. If compensation becomes relevant, with approval from social services, the compensation will consist of lost income. In other cases, it is fully possible to continue working through your regular employment. This depends on the nature and complexity of the assignment and is done in consultation with the operation.
The operation is in great need of being able to offer foster homes for the requests received on a daily basis. Upon completion of the recruitment process, we would like you to be ready to accept an assignment immediately. For this reason, the recruitment is not aimed at building a candidate database or similar.
Responsibilities within the Assignment
As a foster home or emergency foster home, you are responsible for:
- Providing the child with a safe, stable, and loving home environment.
- Meeting the child's daily care, schooling, and contacts with healthcare and other interventions.
- Collaborating with the operations manager, social services, child advocate, guardians, and other actors.
- Being part of a team with other foster homes where experiences are shared.
Foster Homes
Foster homes receive children for shorter or longer periods. You have the opportunity, in dialogue with the operation, to influence which target group, age, and case complexity you receive. There are different types of foster homes, and the categorization is based on the interventions the child needs.
For example, a foster home can mean an assignment that does not differ from a typical nuclear family, but it can also be a therapeutic foster home involving more extensive treatment interventions.
Emergency Foster Homes
Emergency foster homes receive children who initially need placement for a shorter period, usually between a few weeks up to half a year. It is often a requirement that you can be home initially during the placement. If you have a job, you are compensated with lost income for the relevant period. A driver's license and a separate room for the placed child are requirements.
Qualifications
We welcome all types of family constellations, for example, single persons, couples, parent and adult child, and families with or without their own children.
Requirements:
- At least 23 years old.
- The child must be offered a separate room.
- Extracts from the criminal record register, suspicion register, social register, LOB register, as well as registers from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and the Swedish Enforcement Authority.
- For emergency foster home assignments: driver's license and possibility to be home full-time initially.
Personal qualities that are highly valued are security, emotional availability, teamwork skills, self-reflection, and commitment.
Previous experience in foster care is not a requirement – education and supervision are offered continuously.
Previous education in nursing or social work is an advantage, for example: social work education, teacher education, certified therapist education, or psychologist or medical education. Courses in relevant areas, such as low-arousal approach or trauma-informed care, are also an advantage. Having been a foster home previously is also an advantage.
Conditions for the Assignment
- Assignment type: Foster home or emergency foster home.
- Scope: Varies depending on the complexity of the placement.
- Compensation: According to agreement.
- Number of positions: 5.
