Hälsinglands Museum is advertising a position as an Objects Antiquarian.

Objects Antiquarian, Collection Management

Hälsinglands Museum conducts a broad range of activities related to cultural heritage, through knowledge building and research; collection and care of collections, as well as knowledge dissemination in the form of exhibitions, programs, and pedagogy. The museum's collections comprise a variety of objects with high cultural-historical value across several different areas. From different times and environments with a focus on the Hälsingland region. Some of the museum's profile areas include interior wall paintings, folk costumes, and folk interior textiles, minorities, and ecclesiastical objects.

Job Description

As an Objects Antiquarian at Hälsinglands Museum, you will have overall responsibility for collection management, including object, photo, and document archives. You will function as a coordinator for the museum's collection work. In this role, you will work with both strategic and operational tasks.

The duties include, among other things:

  • Coordinate the museum's collection work both physically and digitally.
  • Drive and apply for funding for projects related to collection management, accessibility, and digitization.
  • Activate collections through exhibitions, collaborations, and program activities.
  • Organization and development of the museum's storage and archives.
  • Object handling and moving of objects.
  • Handle loans in and out.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Implement routines, action plans, and policy documents. Develop the museum's processes according to the SPECTRUM standard in collaboration with museum staff.
  • Administer the museum's collection management system (Primus).

Qualifications, Requirements

  • Degree in cultural history, objects antiquarian studies, or equivalent education.
  • Experience in object handling and collection development.
  • Experience in project management and working in projects.
  • Good pedagogical skills and proficiency in speaking and writing in English and Swedish.
  • Valid driver's license (Category B).

Qualifications, Merits

  • Experience in museum work with collections, both physical and digital.
  • Previous coordinating or leading work tasks.
  • Experience in seeking funding with good results.
  • Experience working in systems such as Primus, DigitaltMuseum, KulturNav, Access to Memory, Nextcloud.
  • Experience with or good knowledge of the SPECTRUM standard.
  • Experience in photography.
  • Experience in Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

  • You are meticulous and enjoy creating structure in both physical and digital environments.
  • You are practical and have the ability to handle, move, and organize objects safely and systematically. The work can be physically demanding.
  • You have a broad interest in history and good knowledge of cultural-historical objects.
  • You are accustomed to/willing to interact with the public.
  • You are experienced in working with norms, values, and gender equality.
  • You are curious and wish to develop working methods and routines within collection management together with your colleagues, while also being self-sufficient and confident in driving your work forward independently.

Employment

Working hours are primarily during the day on weekdays, but weekend and evening work may occur. Workplace: Hudiksvall.

The position is a permanent full-time (100%) employment with a probation period of 6 months.

Monthly salary, individual salary setting applies.
