Description

Internationalization at Umeå University is carried out at many different levels and involves both staff and students. The International Office works with university-wide issues related to internationalization. Our mandate includes responsibility for the university's participation in numerous exchange programs, networks, and other collaborations, supporting mobility for students and staff, tuition fee administration, international student recruitment, and international alumni activities. We work in close collaboration with departments, faculties, and other units. We are responsible for university-wide exchange agreements and coordinate the university's participation in several exchange programs and networks. The International Office is an independent unit within the university administration with 20 employees. We offer a dynamic workplace with exciting interactions with students, teachers, and partners from around the world.

We are now looking for a Communicator for a fixed-term position of six months, full-time (100%). Start date: September 1, 2026, or as agreed.

Responsibilities

As a Communicator, you will be part of the communications team at the International Office. The team works strategically and operationally to support the unit's internal and external communication, market the university to recruit international students, and coordinate international alumni activities.

As a Communicator at the International Office, you will participate in various working groups together with other staff members at the unit. You will also be part of national and international networks within higher education.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Producing, updating, and structuring content for the web and other channels to support students and staff with internationalization issues.
  • Supporting the unit in internal and external communication matters, for example through collaboration spaces, newsletters, presentations, networking events, etc.
  • Working with content for the web, social media, and other channels to market Umeå University as a study destination for international students.
  • Writing internal and external news and articles in Swedish and English.
  • Planning and creating content for social media in Swedish and English.
  • Planning and executing digital and physical events for prospective and existing international students and alumni.
  • Producing and/or project-managing orders for printed and digital materials, such as brochures, advertisements, posters, roll-ups, and exhibition materials.
  • Participating in smaller and larger projects related to the International Office's operations.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in communication or another field deemed relevant by the employer.

Relevant and current experience of:

  • planning, implementing, and following up on communication efforts
  • adapting messages to different target groups and channels
  • working with social media and digital communication
  • writing for the web, news media, or other platforms.

You have excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English and Swedish. The role demands high attention to detail as well as a logical and systematic approach.

As a person, you are analytical with a strong drive to turn ideas into practice through dialogue with others. You view collaboration as a natural and integral part of the work, while being proactive, self-sufficient, and flexible, and accustomed to taking significant personal responsibility. You have an interest in international issues, a service-oriented attitude, are outgoing, and value interactions with students and staff. Personal suitability is highly valued.

Terms

The position is a fixed-term appointment covering full-time work for six months, starting September 1, 2026, or as agreed.
