We are looking for a Chief Physician responsible for patient safety and care injury prevention
Do you want to lead and develop patient safety work within Region Jämtland Härjedalen? We are now seeking a Chief Physician who, together with other Chief Physicians and Patient Safety Coordinators in the region, will coordinate the health and care common care injury prevention work and patient safety issues.
Your Role
You will be employed as a Chief Physician by the Division Manager for the Medicine Division. Your primary employment is in this function, but the work is combined with work in your primary specialty, research, or other activities.
Together with the Patient Safety Coordinator in the Medicine Division, you support managers and employees in patient safety work to ensure safe, accessible, and secure care. You support managers in staying ahead of proactive patient safety work, but are also available when serious incidents have occurred. You decide on and when Lex Maria reports should be made. If the report concerns your closest colleagues, you seek help from the Chief Physicians in the other divisions. Naturally, you are also there when your colleagues need similar support.
The overarching patient safety team consists of 6–8 people who meet on fixed days to handle issues that are common throughout the health and care sector. In 2025, LSG Patient Safety was established for internal regional patient safety issues. In internal LSG, in addition to the patient safety team, the division managers and the head of staff in the HS staff are included. A lawyer participates as needed.
Responsibilities
The Chief Physicians provide medical and healthcare legal support to the management, together with the regional physicians and regional lawyers. As a Chief Physician, you work for a good safety culture and participate in preventive patient safety work. You have a clear operational connection in support of the Medicine Division, but also collaborate in many overarching processes.
Examples of responsibilities for a Chief Physician include:
- Introduce and train managers and employees who have special responsibility for patient safety work within the division.
- Be responsible for methods such as the Green Cross, RoC analyses within Patient Safety, and the deviation process including Lex Maria.
- Conduct and lead major incident analyses involving many units (more than two and/or complex incidents).
- Be the reporting authority according to the Patient Safety Act (Lex Maria) within the Region.
- Maintain ongoing dialogue with the patient board and IVO.
- Be responsible for drawing up a Patient Safety Report for the entire HS (analysis, indicators, activities).
- Participate in the MLA network.
- Participate in LSG Patient Safety (for the entire county).
- Participate in networks with other Chief Physicians within the Region, at the regional healthcare level, and nationally.
- Acquire new knowledge in the field of patient safety at the regional/national level.
In addition to the Chief Physician position, one of the three Chief Physician positions will also include team leadership for the entire patient safety team (Chief Physicians and Patient Safety Coordinators). For this Chief Physician, this means a time allocation of a total of 60% (40+20%). Further details regarding team leadership will be handled during the interview.
Qualifications and Merits
We are looking for you who are a specialist physician with several years of experience, preferably with managerial or leadership experience. You have an interest and commitment to care quality, patient safety, and development work.
Knowledge or interest in working with risk and incident analyses is meritorious, as is experience of working as an MLA/MLU or in another leadership function. We also see that you have good communication skills and can adapt information and dialogue based on forum and recipient.
We place great emphasis on personal qualities. We highly value that you act in an engaged and driving manner and create trust and confidence. You express yourself easily in speech and writing, enjoy working in teams, and want to contribute to a good work climate. You have good analytical skills, extensive clinical experience, and want to use your judgment combined with humility in strategic patient safety work.
