Lövsta Agricultural Research

We are looking for you who want to work as a stable technician in the dairy herd at SLU, Lövsta Agricultural Research, outside Uppsala. We are a team of nearly thirty employees at Lövsta, where half work with the dairy herd of 300 cows with rearing, and about six employees work in the pigsty, where the herd consists of 110 sows with integrated production. The stables are highly mechanized, including milking robots (VMS) in the dairy barn. The facility conducts approximately twenty research projects annually and hosts a couple of thousand SLU students.

About the job

We are looking for you who want to work with the routine tasks in a dairy herd, such as supervision in stalls and on pasture, cleaning, registration, administration, weighing, and feeding. The work is scheduled with weekend and on-call duties. Some work may also take place in Lövsta's chicken and layer hen houses, whose operations are integrated with the dairy barn. The daily work is varied with tasks related to research activities and support in teaching.

Your background

You should have practical experience working with agricultural animals and milk production; theoretical knowledge is an advantage. We place great importance on personal qualities such as teamwork, independence, as well as initiative and organizational skills. You should be interested in working with researchers and students. A B-class driver's license is required. It is an advantage if you have taken a breeding course and/or a course in drug handling, as well as if you have experience driving tractors.

Lövsta Agricultural Research at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences is one of Europe's most modern facilities for research and teaching in agricultural animal husbandry. The stables house extensive production of pigs, dairy cows, and poultry. The stables are used daily by students and researchers at SLU.
