The Department of Clinical Sciences at SLU is seeking a responsible Stable Manager for our educational and research stable.

Here, research, education, and advanced veterinary care go hand in hand. We train tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care to companion animals, competition animals, and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the public for better animal husbandry. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we are developing the veterinary care of the future.

The KV Stable is part of the unit for clinical research and education support. The work in the stable is led by the Stable Manager. The operations primarily involve horses, ruminants, pigs, and dogs. Together with the KV Stable's animal caretakers, you are responsible for planning and carrying out the care and nursing of the animals, as well as offering support to teaching staff and researchers.

About the Job

As Stable Manager, you ensure that high-quality education and research can be conducted with support from the stable operations. In your role, you work on the planning and development of activities at KV Stable. In your daily work, you schedule and allocate KV Stable's personnel and resources in an efficient and appropriate manner in accordance with current regulations. You are responsible for ensuring that the Animal Welfare Act and current guidelines are followed.

Together with your manager, the Head of Unit for Clinical Research and Education Support, you are responsible for the economy of KV Stable and ensure that operations are conducted within given financial frameworks. You promote a good working environment and equal opportunities within KV Stable's operations and contribute to the department's environmental management work. In these tasks, you perform risk assessments and draw up instructions for particularly hazardous tasks.

The position also includes daily care, feeding, and nursing of primarily horses and ruminants, but also pigs. The work also entails responsibility for dog activities at KV Stable. Participation and assistance in research projects and clinical activities with ruminants occur.

Working hours are during the day according to schedule. Weekend work and other inconvenient working hours may occur.

Your Background

You are a trained veterinarian or veterinary nurse with practical experience in handling horses and ruminants. A B-class driver's license is a requirement. Since the employment involves contact with employees of different nationalities, animal owners, and students, you need to have good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written. You are computer literate.

You have an understanding of workflows and the importance of leadership within the team. Previous experience and formal education in leadership and other responsible roles are meritorious, as is experience with scheduling. Education in pedagogy is also valued.

You easily see the bigger picture and are motivated to steer towards set goals. You are a clear and coaching leader who easily creates relationships based on respect and trust in the individual. You are inspired by improvement work and have a great interest in letting others grow in their roles. You have a basic understanding of economics.

Experience working in experimental animal activities or veterinary hospitals is meritorious, as is experience working with dogs.

As a person, you are structured, have good self-insight, and can prioritize during periods of higher workload. You are communicative with good collaboration skills and the ability to create and maintain good relationships with colleagues and students. You take great and independent responsibility for your tasks but have the judgment to ask for help when needed.

Great importance will be attached to personal suitability and skills such as collaboration skills, flexibility, independence, and a service-oriented attitude.

The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for basic education, research, and doctoral education in anesthesiology, imaging diagnostics, animal nursing, epidemiology, experimental animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and reproduction. Within all subjects, our operations cover all animal species.
