Job Description

A postdoctoral position aims to provide an opportunity to develop independence as a researcher after completing a doctoral degree and to create conditions for further career advancement. The position may be fixed-term for a maximum of 3 years.

The position primarily involves research, where the candidate will independently plan and conduct scientific studies within energy and environmental technology.

The position will be carried out within the framework of the research profile FEC (Future Energy Center), meaning that the work is conducted in close collaboration with industrial partners and other researchers within the profile.

Future Energy conducts research in the following areas:

  • Renewable energy with a focus on solar and bioenergy, and the integration of renewable energy into energy systems
  • Resource efficiency with a focus on energy efficiency, low emissions, and recycling of nutrients and materials
  • Digitalization for energy efficiency and improved environmental performance

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to take initiative, be creative, and take responsibility. Furthermore, the tasks involve close interaction with industrial partners. Therefore, the applicant must have good collaboration skills. The researcher must also be able to disseminate and communicate scientific results and knowledge within existing and new networks, including academia, industry, and society at large. Research results will be presented at project meetings, conferences, and in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to take personal responsibility for planning and conducting your studies, take your own initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and collaborate with others both within and outside academia. Teaching or other duties may be included in the position for a maximum of 20%.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will also be part of the Future Energy research group, where you are expected to contribute to the development of the group.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have completed a doctoral degree in energy technology, no more than three years before the application deadline. You have not previously held a postdoctoral position within the same or related subject area at MDU for more than one year.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate research experience in national and/or international projects within process modeling and simulations, including both steady-state and dynamic modeling and techno-economic analysis, as well as good knowledge of written and spoken English.

The applicant must demonstrate good collaboration skills, the ability to organize and carry out tasks independently, experience with or openness to interdisciplinary work, and a propositional approach.

Assessment Criteria

For this position, special emphasis will be placed on:

  • Good knowledge of thermal conversion of biomass, such as gasification and pyrolysis
  • Good programming skills in MATLAB, Aspen Plus, Modelica, etc.
  • Good knowledge of data-driven methods for modeling and optimization
  • Good knowledge of AI
  • Experience of scientific publications beyond the thesis
  • Experience in writing project applications and leading projects

In a combined assessment of suitability, personal qualities will also be weighted. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good work environment.

The applicant must also have good collaboration skills, such as effective communication, reliability, creativity, and responsibility.

We value the qualities that a balanced age and gender distribution, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, bring to the operations.
