About the workplace

Software development is part of the business area Information Technology within IT and digitalization at Region Halland. The Software Development department consists of approximately 20 highly competent employees who develop, further develop, and maintain applications, integrations, APIs, automations, and technical platforms. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the operations and other parts of IT and digitalization.

As Head of Department, you will become part of the management group for Information Technology together with other managers in the field. You are also part of the joint management group for IT and digitalization, where collaboration, shared responsibility, and a cohesive mission are in focus. The position can be based in Halmstad or Varberg, but personal meetings are an important part of leadership and collaboration within IT and digitalization. The management group therefore meets physically in Halmstad one day per week. The department's employees are located in different places in Halland, and some work remotely. The role therefore requires a good ability to collaborate, anchor, and make decisions together with others in a complex organization.

About the job

As Head of Department, you are responsible for leading, developing, and prioritizing the department's work. You create conditions for high quality, security, and long-term sustainable solutions, while driving development in close collaboration with the operations.

In the role, you lead and develop the department's employees and delivery capacity with clarity and trust. You create conditions for highly competent teams to develop, take responsibility, and deliver with great independence.

An important part of the assignment is to create balance between innovation, development, and maintenance, and to develop the partnership with the operations so that the department's solutions provide clear benefits.

You also contribute to Region Halland's development within AI and information-driven working methods and are an active leader who promotes new thinking.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• Relevant higher education in IT or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent.
• Experience in software development, digital product development, integration development, or other related areas.
• Experience in leading specialists, teams, or development operations in a complex IT environment.
• Good understanding of modern system development, integrations, APIs, development platforms, and related working methods.
• Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

It is meritorious if you also have:

• Management experience with personnel, budget, and operational responsibility.
• Experience in leading change, organizational development, or competence supply work within the IT and digitalization field.
• Experience in leading work with AI, data platforms, or information-driven development.
• Experience with tools and processes such as DevOps, CI/CD, architecture governance, technology strategy, or modern agile development management.
