Driven by seeing your ideas come to life? Welcome to our exciting and technology-intensive world.
Your Role
At Naval AI & Autonomy, we are a recently established section with a startup-like team that brings together top expertise to develop autonomous marine systems for military use. We work from early research to production-ready implementation - and test our solutions in real marine environments, including with the help of our own research vessel.
We work with both unmanned surface vehicles and underwater systems, as well as applications on larger platforms such as submarines, corvettes, and frigates. The focus is on building tomorrow's autonomous capabilities at sea by combining AI, system integration, and advanced autonomy technology. We work in parallel with research, prototypes, and production-ready implementations - across multiple TRL levels simultaneously.
We are now looking for two software developers. The role and area of responsibility are adapted to your experience and background - but what you have in common is that you will work in technically advanced environments where AI, sensors, and autonomous systems are in focus, and where solutions are tested in reality.
Examples of your tasks:
- Develop and maintain software in Python and/or C++
- Work with computer vision and AI/ML, for example in PyTorch
- Build and improve pipelines from data collection to real-time processing
- Work with ROS2, Docker, and Linux-based environments
- Integrate software with sensors, onboard computers, and autonomous systems
- Participate in testing, debugging, and data collection - also in real marine environments
- Contribute to code structure, architecture, and development processes
Your Profile
Regardless of experience level, we are looking for you who have an interest in AI and thrive in a technically advanced and developing environment. As a person, you are unpretentious, curious, and motivated by constantly learning and developing. You take responsibility for your work, work independently, and have the ability to plan, structure, and drive your tasks forward in an efficient manner. We also see that you thrive in a team environment with a flat hierarchy - and in a small but growing, technically ambitious team where collaboration and constructive discussions are highly valued.
We would like you to have:
- A Master of Science degree in e.g. data science, or equivalent education or experience
- Experience of software development in Python and/or C++
- Experience with, or an interest in, AI/ML and computer vision
- Interest in how software functions in complex, physical systems
- Ability to work with both details and the big picture
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience with autonomous systems, defense-related activities, or marine environments
- Experience with system integration or real-time systems
- Experience with ROS2, Docker, or Linux-based development environments
- Strong project or hobby experience in a relevant area
- Experience using modern AI tools in development work, such as generative AI or tools like Claude Code
We place great emphasis on motivation, problem-solving skills, and the willingness to contribute to the team's joint development.
The position requires that you undergo and are approved according to the current regulations for security clearance. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may, in some cases, entail requirements for certain citizenship.
Please note that the selection process begins from week 33, starting on August 10.
