Welcome to Östergötland Museum – a vibrant meeting place where we create knowledge experiences that surprise. We manage and communicate art and cultural history by inviting visitors to guided tours, cultural events, workshops, the museum shop, conferences, and more. We also operate businesses within archaeology, conservation, building care, and the restaurant.

Within the Exhibition Production unit, we are responsible for all of the museum's exhibitions. This means we manage our existing exhibitions, work with loaned exhibitions, and constantly develop new in-house produced exhibition projects, covering both art and cultural history. Currently, we are in an intensive phase of implementing a new permanent exhibition about the history of computers in Sweden and Östergötland, which is a major initiative from the museum.

Are you a handy fixer who creatively has the ability to see solutions instead of problems? Then you now have the chance to become our new Exhibition Technician and work at the intersection of creative making and practical craftsmanship!

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural and technical solutions for new exhibitions, including preparing cost estimates and planning the purchase of materials and services.
  • Exhibition construction including design, carpentry, and assembly of exhibition environments, display cases, scenography, interactive installations, special fittings, and prints.
  • Construction and installation of analog and digital interactions.
  • Handling and installation of art and sensitive objects in dialogue with the museum's other staff.
  • In consultation with the exhibition producer, develop creative proposals for solutions to develop concepts regarding e.g., materials, construction, and execution.
  • Ongoing supervision and maintenance of the museum's exhibitions.

Qualifications

You have a secondary or post-secondary education in e.g., interior carpentry, carpentry, design, or stage technology, or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent.

You have a good ability to translate concepts and formal ideas into sustainable and feasible structures and can develop production solutions and material choices that are resource-efficient in terms of time, economy, operational reliability, and long-term sustainability.

We would like you to have experience working in public environments – such as science centers, museums, stage production, theater, TV, events, or similar. Experience working with digital or analog interactions or digital technology is highly desired. It is also an advantage if you have experience with AV technology installation, are familiar with 3D programs such as Rhino or SketchUp, or have experience with the CMS/control system Blocks from Pixilab or similar. Further experience we value includes knowledge of handling and installing art and sensitive museum objects, as well as climate and safety issues related to this. Knowledge and interest in digital technology, simpler programming, and media production are also seen as valuable.

But the most important thing is that you are inventive and clever! You like to turn creative and perhaps untested visions into practical reality. You are a problem solver who finds smart, innovative, functional, and feasible solutions. We would like you to have a good sense of color and form and not be afraid to test new materials. Your ability to collaborate is good, while you independently drive your processes forward. To thrive in the role, you need to enjoy working against deadlines and balancing between long and short planning horizons. You have the ability to see when it is important to be precise and when it is more important to be efficient, and you thrive in a dynamic environment with varying conditions.

We offer an stimulating environment with a great variety of tasks and opportunities for development.

Personal suitability will be given great weight.
