Do you want to play a key role in shaping a sustainable Östersund? The Waste and Water & Sewerage Sector is now looking for an engaged and pedagogical environmental coordinator who wants to drive our strategic and operational environmental work forward.

About the operations

The Waste and Water & Sewerage Sector is one of the cornerstones of a functioning society. We are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the water and wastewater operations as well as waste management in the municipality – all the way from waterworks and treatment plants to pipe networks and recycling centers. Here, you become part of a socially important operation where your work makes a real difference every day, for both residents and the environment.

Your new job

As an environmental coordinator, you have a central and supportive role within the Waste and Water & Sewerage Sector. You work both strategically and operationally with environmental issues, legislation, and permit processes. A large and important part of your daily routine involves supporting our various operations (Drinking Water, Wastewater, Pipe Networks, as well as Recycling and the waste facility) with expert knowledge and advice to ensure legal compliance and drive environmental improvements.

You collaborate broadly and cross-functionally within the sector, with other parts of the municipality, as well as with external supervisory and permitting authorities. You actively share your competence and contribute to raising the overall knowledge level in line with Östersund Municipality's values and goals for a sustainable society.

Common tasks

  • Monitor, follow up, and interpret current environmental legislation, and coordinate legal compliance checks.
  • Have contact and collaborate with supervisory and permitting authorities.
  • Coordinate and chair the sector's cross-functional quality team and work with continuous improvements.
  • Work with and further develop our management system according to ISO 14001.
  • Coordinate complex consultation responses.
  • Support the operations, Drinking Water, Wastewater, Pipe Networks, Recycling, and the waste facility, with knowledge and advice within the environmental, waste, and water & sewerage fields.

Your qualifications

Requirements

  • University or college education in water and environmental engineering, water & sewerage engineering, or other education/experience that we assess as equivalent.
  • Very good knowledge of relevant environmental legislation.
  • A few years of practical experience working with permit and/or notification cases.
  • Valid driver's license (Category B).

Merits

  • Experience from municipal or other public operations and understanding of political decision-making processes.
  • Experience working with management systems (ISO 14001) and environmental audits.
  • Experience with security clearance and handling of protected information within the water & sewerage sector.
  • Accustomed to diary registration and administrative routines within the public sector.

Other

The position is classified as security-classified. Therefore, a security investigation with register check will be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act before a decision on employment is made.

We are looking for you

To succeed and thrive in the role, we see that you are a confident and pedagogical specialist who is motivated by guiding others. You have a consultative approach, meaning you have a good ability to balance legal and authority requirements with practical operational benefits. You easily build trust and collaborate smoothly with different functions and professional roles.

As a person, you are structured, analytical, and have a well-developed ability to see the big picture. You can quickly familiarize yourself with complex materials and translate legal requirements into functioning, practical solutions for everyday life. At the same time, you are development-oriented and driven by contributing to a more sustainable way of working.

How the recruitment process works

Interviews may take place on an ongoing basis. We want you to attach your CV and cover letter to your application. Grades/certificates do not need to be sent with the application. We ask you to complete this if an interview becomes relevant.

Östersund Municipality has considered the choice of advertising channels prior to advertising and therefore declines calls from recruitment agencies and advertising sales.
