Seeking Coordinator for Interregional Book Start Project Miessie

Biblioteksutveckling Västerbotten works to promote development, collaboration, and quality in the county's public library services and to strengthen the libraries' role as a force for democracy, participation, and diversity.

Since March 2026, the interregional book start project Miessie has been running in collaboration with Region Norrbotten, Region Västernorrland, Region Jämtland Härjedalen, and Region Dalarna. The project is funded by the Swedish Arts Council and aims to strengthen the use of the Sami language among the youngest children in daily life and activities through collaboration. The project contributes to promoting language development and reading among young children in the Swedish part of Sápmi. Collaboration primarily takes place between professionals and actors working with young children's language development, such as children's librarians, child health care nurses, speech therapists, and educators. The Sami Library and the Sami Language Centre are also actors in the project.

We are now looking for a coordinator who can strengthen the work with, among other things, Sami cultural and linguistic knowledge. Together with the existing project manager, you will drive the project forward in collaboration with the other regions and other actors. We offer a developing work environment in a creative and committed atmosphere where we learn from each other and drive important issues forward together.

Responsibilities

As a coordinator, you create the conditions for collaboration, knowledge development, and long-term results. In the role, you are responsible, together with the project manager, for driving the project forward and ensuring that project goals are met.

You contribute your competence in Sami culture and language, as well as your experience from Sami society. Your knowledge is central to ensuring that the project reaches its target group in a relevant and respectful manner.

The work as a coordinator is carried out in close collaboration with the project manager, working group, and steering group. You are also part of the working group within Biblioteksutveckling Västerbotten.

During the project, you will meet, among others, children's librarians, child health care nurses, speech therapists, and educators.

Qualifications

The following requirements apply for the position:

  • You must have good knowledge of Sami society through education or work experience.
  • You must have experience working with Sami children aged 0-3 years, through education or work experience.
  • You have good digital competence.
  • You express yourself well verbally and in writing, both in digital and physical contexts.

Personal Competencies

  • You work in a structured and quality-conscious manner.
  • You have the ability to initiate and drive development work both independently and in collaboration with others.
  • You have a strong commitment to young children's language development in a Sami context.

Merits

  • You have experience working with children and families and language development, for example, in preschool, child health care, speech therapy, libraries, or similar activities.
  • You have experience in project work and collaborating with other actors.
  • You can express yourself verbally and in writing in one of the Sami languages.

Employment Terms

Type of Employment: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer, start date: 2026-10-01, end date: 2027-09-30.
Working Hours: Daytime.

The position involves several trips throughout Sápmi and Sweden.
