Stage Sound Technician
Västerbotten Theatre - Skellefteå
Whispers, thunder, beautiful singing, or disturbing noise? Sound is many different things - and we are looking for you who want to use your skills to create powerful performing arts experiences.
Västerbotten Theatre produces, presents, and develops performing arts throughout the county. Our goal is to create bold performing arts that touch, enrich, and challenge. We are based at Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå, but we meet audiences in many different locations - from well-equipped stages to schools, community halls, and outdoor environments.
We are now looking for a stage technician with sound as a core expertise to join our production technical team.
About the Role
In this role, you work operationally in the theatre's productions - from idea presentation to finished performance and tour. You are involved throughout the entire process and contribute to creating technical solutions that support the artistic work.
Your responsibilities include:
- Designing, programming, and operating sound for performances and events.
- Working with rehearsals, performances, and tours.
- Adapting sound solutions to different venues and conditions.
- Providing technical support and sound management for workshops, meetings, lectures, and other events.
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of sound equipment.
- Participating in guest performances and external events.
- Working closely with technical colleagues and artistic teams.
At our theatre, we work across technical boundaries - therefore, you will also be involved in work within lighting, video, and stage technology.
We are looking for someone who has
- Education in sound/stage technology or equivalent experience.
- Experience in practical sound work within performing arts, live production, or similar.
- Good knowledge of sound systems, mixing consoles, and PA systems.
- Experience with relevant tools (e.g., QLab or similar).
- Good IT skills and good knowledge of Swedish and English.
- Valid driver's license (Category B).
It is an advantage if you also have experience from theatre or touring operations, competence in lighting, lighting console programming, or video/projection. Experience working in various types of performance venues and familiarity with technical maintenance and service.
We also view very positively an interest in developing within adjacent technical areas.
As a person, you are
- Independent and responsible.
- Flexible and solution-oriented.
- Unpretentious and thrive in a smaller organization where you help out where needed.
- Confident in high-pressure situations, even during live performances.
- A team player who collaborates well with both technical and artistic colleagues.
- Genuinely interested in performing arts and the role of sound in storytelling.
What it is like to work with us
We are a regional theatre with a broad mandate and a strong desire to reach audiences throughout Västerbotten. Here, technology is an integrated part of the artistic work, and you get to work closely with the processes - from idea to delivered experience.
We are a small team, which means variety, significant responsibility, and good opportunities to develop within several technical areas.
About the Employment
- Employment type: Permanent (full-time) or as agreed.
- Working hours: Irregular, with evenings and weekends.
- Location: Skellefteå with touring activities.
- Collective agreement applies.
