Do you want to help develop the electricity systems of the future and contribute to Sweden's energy transition? We are now looking for a Unit Manager for the newly established System Planning unit – a central role with significant strategic responsibility where you will help shape the long-term development of the Swedish electricity system.

About the role

As Unit Manager for System Planning, you will belong to the System Strategy department within the System Division. The unit is one of six units within the department and has a collective responsibility for the long-term planning of the national electricity system. Here, the work of developing strategies and plans for the development of the electricity system over time is led, developed, and coordinated. The work is carried out in close collaboration with both internal functions and external actors within the energy sector, authorities, and research environments.

The unit is in a setup phase and currently consists of nine employees – a team of specialists with high competence and broad experience in areas such as energy, welfare economics, and system analysis. Together, the unit drives the development of new methods and working practices, and contributes to strategic choices in an electricity system that is changing rapidly.

This is a role for you who want to combine leadership with strategic work in a complex and socially important operation. You will have a central position in leading a knowledge-intensive organization, handling uncertainties in long-term planning, and creating collaboration around important choices in the energy transition. As a manager, you are part of the System Strategy management group and also participate in relevant steering groups and cross-functional forums.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and build up the System Planning unit.
  • Have personnel responsibility for employees, including competence development, working environment, and performance.
  • Be responsible for recruitment and staffing as the unit grows.
  • Drive business planning, budgeting, and follow-up.
  • Set direction and develop strategies, methods, and working practices within system planning.
  • Handle prioritization in a growing and complex assignment.
  • Create collaboration and consensus with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in management group work, steering groups, and cross-functional forums.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term plans and strategies for the Swedish electricity system.

About you

Requirements:

We are looking for a confident leader who inspires participation and engagement. Your leadership is coaching-oriented, and you create conditions for the development of both individuals and the team while ensuring responsibility and delivery. You have a very good ability to collaborate and build trust-based relationships. Through a structured approach and good judgment, you make well-founded decisions even in situations characterized by uncertainty. At the same time, you handle change with a positive and solution-oriented attitude and drive long-term issues forward in a goal-oriented and persistent manner.

You must also adhere to the Swedish Government Values Foundation (https://www.statskontoret.se/forvaltningskultur/den-statliga-vardegrunden/).

In this recruitment, we place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

Furthermore, you have an academic degree at the master's level in engineering, industrial economics, economics, or another area relevant to the position. You also have:

  • Several years of experience from the energy sector (e.g., power systems, electricity market, grid, or energy policy) or alternatively from another operation closely linked to the development of the energy system.
  • Several years of experience as a manager with personnel responsibility for specialists in a complex environment.
  • Experience leading cross-functional development projects in collaboration with several operations or actors, where different perspectives and goals have needed to be balanced.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Merits

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience leading change work, such as business development, organizational changes, method development, or the introduction of new control and planning processes.
  • Experience in strategic development or planning work, where long-term analyses, scenarios, choices, or strategies have been a central part of the assignment.
  • Knowledge of welfare economic analyses and decision support, as well as experience applying welfare economic perspectives in strategic choices and investment decisions.
