Kungälv-Ytterby Parish comprises the central parts of Kungälv Municipality, located just north of Gothenburg. Approximately 27,000 residents live within the parish area, of whom more than 15,000 are members of the Church of Sweden. The parish employs around 50 staff members who work across four district churches with distinct expressions, as well as at the Hospital Church. The Cemetery Administration is responsible for six cemeteries.

Pastoral Program

The parish's calling is to let the work bear fruit for the Kingdom of God and to rely on the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

The four district churches are responsible for carrying out the fundamental tasks. The churches are not to be homogenized but should have the freedom, in dialogue with the vicar, to shape their activities based on their own conditions, opportunities, limitations, and history. The different churches complement each other, thereby providing the parish as a whole with a good breadth regarding worship and activities. This is made possible through a culture of cooperation and generosity among the churches.

The core of parish life is the Sunday worship. It should be characterized by faithfulness to the Word of God, liturgical and musical richness, as well as participation and engagement from many.

We are looking for you who:

  • Are grounded in the belief that all work in the parish is ultimately God's work and wish to rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, follow Jesus, and remain faithful to God's Word.
  • Have documented experience in leadership.
  • Are confident in the Church of Sweden's faith, confession, and regulations, and have the ability to lead the parish with the different traditions and expressions of its district churches.
  • Are a clear and structured leader with good skills in delegation, inspiration, and encouragement.
  • Are an independent and modern leader who finds security and inspiration in cooperation with the church council and other elected officials.
  • Have good knowledge and engagement in administration, personnel, economy, property management, funeral operations, and the Funeral Act.
  • Wish to preserve what is already good while being visionary and developing new ways of being a church in a changing world.
  • Wish to create conditions for good encounters with people in their daily lives.
  • Encourage and work for voluntary engagement.

We place great importance on personal suitability for the position and the ability to collaborate well and develop positively. Since the position may involve work with children, we apply the Act on Register Checks and will request an extract from the criminal record register upon offer of employment. Start date: by agreement.

If you are interested in the position, you are welcome to contact the Chair of the Church Council, Erik Eliasson, at 070–349 48 59 ([email protected]), or the current vicar, Archdeacon Mikael Isacson, at 0303–37 70 01 ([email protected]).

Please submit your application by August 16, 2026, to: [email protected]

The Diocesan Board interviews will take place on August 25 and 28. The Parish interviews will take place on August 20 and 31.

Union representatives: KyrkA, Ammi Jonsson, 0738–520 374, and Vision, Lars Svernling, 0523–66 84 10.

We kindly but firmly decline direct contact from staffing and recruitment agencies as well as sellers of additional job advertisements.
