Stroke Unit, Mälarsjukhuset, Eskilstuna

About Us

We are looking for dedicated nurses interested in working with intensive rehabilitation and acute care for patients who have suffered a stroke. The unit currently consists of 14 care beds but will be expanded with 4 new beds for patients in need of intensive rehabilitation.

The team currently working on the unit includes doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, admission and discharge coordinators, and paramedics.

The Stroke Unit conducts KUA (Knowledge, Development, and Work), which means that students from various professions within the healthcare sector practice collaboration with other professional groups to increase their care competence and gain perspective on their own professional role as nurses and their role in the team.

The patients cared for at the Stroke Unit/KUA are patients who have, among other things, suffered a stroke/TIA, traumatic brain injuries, or various neurological diseases such as ALS and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Rapid and intensive rehabilitation for these patients is a crucial prerequisite for developing and maintaining their abilities.

The unit's goal is to offer professional stroke care to our inpatients while simultaneously providing interprofessional learning for students from some of the most common professional categories in healthcare. Communication and teamwork are two important components for creating a good, calm, and pleasant work environment that includes everyone on the unit.

Your Responsibilities

As a nurse at the Stroke Unit/KUA, you will be responsible, together with the team consisting of nursing assistants, paramedics, doctors, and coordinators, for the acute care of patients who have suffered a stroke/TIA, traumatic brain injuries, or various neurological diseases such as ALS and MS. Rehabilitation is always carried out in close collaboration with paramedical staff. As a nurse, you are also responsible for leading the entire nursing process, medication management, documentation, and mentoring of new colleagues and students.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with experience in the profession. Pedagogical competence is advantageous. Mentorship training will become a requirement after a certain period of work (if you do not already have it). Participation in the planning and implementation of competence-enhancing activities is expected.

We would like you to be a person who is calm and confident in your professional role. You should understand the importance of communication for a good work environment and patient safety. It is also of great importance that in your role as a nurse, to the best of your ability, you both want and can lead and make decisions based on the best interests of the operation in the daily work on the unit. This can include both work-related issues and staffing during on-call duties.

You should be driven and appreciate quality and change work. You take responsibility for achieving the unit's goals. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
