About the Space Division

The Space Division falls under the Air Staff and was established in 2023. We offer a unique opportunity to be involved early on in driving the Swedish Armed Forces' development within the space domain, thereby contributing to Sweden's security.

The Space Division participates in a number of exciting projects, such as the development of a military space situational awareness picture, satellite launches in Kiruna, formulation of requirements and procurement of satellites, as well as international collaborations within the space domain.

Within the division, we have representation from all branches of the armed forces, which is important for integrating new knowledge with previous experience from the other domains: land, sea, air, and cyber, as well as civilian expertise. Training within the space domain will be offered and planned, both nationally and internationally.

About the Position

The Space Division is responsible for the development of the Swedish Armed Forces' space capabilities, which includes planning, development, and procurement of future space capabilities, as well as the operation of satellites and systems for space situational awareness. Since the Space Division is in a strong phase of development, the tasks may evolve over time, offering excellent opportunities to take significant responsibility and influence the direction of the work.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead case officer for tasks related to the planning, development, and procurement of future space capabilities, such as satellites, launches, space situational awareness, etc.
  • Support the division and the Swedish Armed Forces with subject matter expertise and training in space matters.
  • Represent the Swedish Armed Forces in collaborations with other organizations, authorities, and nations.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree at university level in space technology, or equivalent knowledge through work experience assessed by the employer as equivalent.
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for you with an interest in space who has the ability to work in teams as well as independently. You are service-oriented and have an easy time connecting with people. As a person, you take initiative, are solution-oriented, and have an interest in increasing your understanding of the Swedish Armed Forces' operations. A prerequisite for performing the tasks well is that you are structured and organized and have good prioritization skills. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Merits

  • Current and relevant work experience in space technology.
  • Education and experience in project management.
  • Experience in research and technology development.
  • Previous employment at the Swedish Armed Forces or another authority.
  • Completed compulsory military service or equivalent military training.

Other Information

  • Employment type: Civil permanent employment. The Swedish Armed Forces apply a six-month probation period for those not already employed by the authority.
  • Working hours: Full-time.
  • Location: Uppsala. Some remote work may be granted based on operational needs.
  • Salary: Individual salary setting applies.
  • Start date: As soon as possible, by agreement.

About the Air Staff and the Swedish Armed Forces

The primary and largest task of the Air Staff is to support the Air Force Chief in leading all squadrons and schools in the Air Force at all levels of the conflict spectrum. The Air Staff develops, plans, implements, and evaluates orders and directives issued by the Air Force Chief. The Air Staff consists of approximately 350 employees. The Air Force organizes and trains air, base, and command units and has the mandate to monitor and protect Swedish airspace. This is a 24/7, year-round mission to ensure Sweden's integrity. Approximately 5,100 employees, both civilian and military, work within the Air Force.

An employment with us involves placement in a security class. Swedish citizenship is usually required.
