You meet students where they are, build relationships, and help them succeed both academically and socially, in the classroom as well as outside.

Adapted primary school is a form of schooling for students with intellectual disabilities where the teaching is adapted to each student's needs, prerequisites, and development. The goal is to provide a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes knowledge development, independence, and participation in society.

At our school, students are in grades 4–6 and 7–9. We work extensively with language, communication, and social interaction, and we individualize activities and materials based on each student's needs. Frödingskolan | Karlstad Municipality

We are currently looking for two permanent positions and one longer-term temporary position - please state in your application which position you are interested in.

Job Responsibilities

As a student assistant in adapted primary school, you have a varied and meaningful assignment where you make a big difference in the students' daily lives. You provide pedagogical and social support during the school day – in the classroom, during breaks, during transfers, and in other contexts where your presence creates safety and structure. An important part of the assignment is also to meet the students' care needs, which may involve physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting. High noise levels and situations that require calmness, flexibility, and professional handling may also occur in the operations.

You support one or more students in both teaching, communication, and social interaction, and you collaborate closely with teachers and other staff to create a safe, accessible, and stimulating learning environment based on each student's individual needs. The position also includes work in the leisure center, where you contribute to a meaningful and developmental activity after the end of the school day.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are trained as a student assistant or have experience that the employer considers equivalent.

As a person, you easily create safety and good relationships with both students and colleagues, and you are used to working independently as well as in a team. You are flexible and can quickly switch between different tasks – for example, from providing support to a single student with special needs to leading an activity for a whole student group. You are sensitive to the students' daily condition and needs, and can adapt your handling accordingly. Your communicative ability allows you to clearly explain tasks, calm down in stressful situations, and collaborate effectively with both colleagues and guardians.

The work can sometimes be both physically and mentally demanding, and it is important that you have the ability to maintain calm, create structure, and build trusting relationships. At the same time, you get the opportunity to make a real difference in the students' daily lives – an assignment that challenges and gives back a lot.
