About the Department

The field of activity of the Social and Environmental Department is the well-being of humans, animals, and the environment. The department is responsible for developing legislation, planning, coordinating, monitoring development within the field of activity, and exercising certain supervision over social, health, and medical care as well as environmental health and environmental protection, ensuring that it is qualitatively and quantitatively appropriate considering current conditions and existing regulations. The department handles the general management and supervision of the Åland Environmental and Health Protection Authority and Åland Health Care.

About the Position

The Social Welfare Bureau handles cases concerning the promotion of social welfare and the prevention of social problems. In addition to the Bureau Chief, there are currently six special experts and one lawyer working at the bureau. The working language is Swedish.

The main tasks of the special expert are to handle overall planning, management, and development of sub-areas within social welfare in the region and to act as an expert in these areas, initiate and prepare materials for new legislation within sub-areas of social welfare, handle and monitor cases and EU cases within the area of responsibility, and handle other tasks assigned by the superior that belong to the field of activity.

Requirements

Qualification requirements: A degree from a university or a comparable higher education institution, recognized by the national education authority, equivalent to at least four years of full-time studies with a suitable specialization.

Desirable: Familiarity with administrative tasks and knowledge of the field of activity are desirable. In addition, emphasis is placed on personal qualities (e.g., independence, initiative-taking ability, teamwork skills, communication skills).
