Job Description
The position involves research and teaching in technical physics, with a particular focus on physical electronics and photonics, laser physics, and optical nanomaterials.
The duties consist primarily of research and teaching, as well as research and educational administration. Teaching includes, for example, courses in optics, quantum mechanics, and nanotechnology, as well as the use of advanced characterization equipment in civil engineering and master's programs, but also in other programs within the department.
The role also involves collaborating with other researchers and teachers within the subject and at the department, as well as actively working for quality development in the research and education area. In addition to your own research work, your employment will include supervising students, applying for external research funding, and research strategic work within the group. Opportunities for competence development are available within the framework of the employment according to the current collective agreement and local guidelines.
Qualifications
The person appointed as University Lecturer must be eligible according to the requirements described in Mittuniversitetet's employment regulations as well as the requirements described in the Rules and Guidelines for Employment as University Lecturer at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media.
For employment, your degree must be in technical physics or physical electronics/photonics with a direction towards laser physics and advanced optical materials. In your continued research work, it is required that you have worked with advanced materials and material processes and that you have shown good ability to develop in new areas. To immediately be able to enter the duties as a university teacher and perform high-quality teaching, previous experience of teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as completed higher education pedagogy education equivalent to 15 ECTS credits, is required.
Assessment Criteria
Equal care is given to the assessment of pedagogical skill as scientific skill.
The applicant's scientific and pedagogical skill must be sufficiently good, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in the development, manufacturing, or testing of components or structures within physical electronics, optics, laser physics, or photonics.
- Experience in material processing and laser processing for optical, photonic, or energy storage applications.
- Experience in optical characterization, for example with spectroscopy, interferometry, microscopy, or other relevant measurement methods.
- Experience in experimental laser physics, including work with laser setups, beam quality, wavelength conversion, pulse physics, or laser-material interaction.
- Experience in international research collaborations.
- Experience in course responsibility, program responsibility, or other academic leadership tasks.
- Experience in teaching and supervision at the doctoral level.
- Extensive experience in applying for research funding in external competition, both at the national and international level.

Other Assessment Criteria
The activities (teaching, research, and collaboration) at the department are conducted in a national and international environment. Therefore, good skills in English, both written and oral, are required. You must also have very good ability to communicate in Swedish and the ability to conduct teaching in a Swedish-speaking educational program.
Processing
The processing of the employment follows the forms specified in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and continues in accordance with Mittuniversitetet's employment regulations.
Employment and Commencement
Permanent position with a scope of 100 percent of full time, with commencement 2026-10-01, or according to agreement.
