Sweden's resilience is rooted in us. Now we are making it even stronger and are looking for a Director for the Central Portfolio Department at a time of both challenges and opportunities. In this role, you will have a central position in leading, developing, and strengthening an operation that literally lays the foundation for Sweden's defense. A task that is more important today than it has been in a long time.

The Swedish Fortifications Agency owns, manages, and develops defense properties and facilities that enable the total defense to operate in peacetime, as well as in crisis and war. When the international situation challenges Sweden's security, our defense is expanded – and consequently, our mission develops and grows. We are on one of the most significant development journeys in the agency's history. With unique experience and competence in fortification, protective, and facility technology, we develop advanced and robust environments that create protection, endurance, and freedom of action for the military defense. All at a pace where frequent deliveries are balanced with quality and safety.

Your skills build Sweden's defense

In this rapid development, you as the applicant play a crucial role as a manager and leader. You have a strong focus on leadership and delivery, good ability to build and develop relationships both internally and externally, and you see responsibility as a natural part of your job. You are confident in yourself, dare to challenge existing ways of working, ask the right questions, and adapt the solution to the need, whether it concerns a tent solution or a CBRN-protected facility.

The Swedish Fortifications Agency is now establishing geographical areas responsible for both the management of existing property portfolios and new construction for our partners. In addition to the geographical areas, the Department for Central Investment Projects is being established to ensure consolidated planning, prioritization, and follow-up of construction and investment initiatives of a national character. The main responsibility will be for projects that cannot appropriately be planned, prioritized, or implemented within the framework of a single geographical area. We need to maintain high delivery capacity and proximity to our partners in their daily work. The role may involve being a manager of subordinate managers.

Your mission is to:

  • ensure the planning of time, resources, and dependencies together with the geographically responsible directors
  • ensure that initiatives are planned outside or above geographical frameworks when necessary, and to resource and prioritize for the operation
  • identify and manage interfaces with geographical areas, including impact on their capacity and ongoing commitments
  • escalate competition for resources between construction initiatives
  • create conditions for collaboration and a holistic view in the organization
  • represent the operation with integrity, trust, and professionalism.

You report to the Director General. Our headquarters are located in Eskilstuna. The position involves travel within Sweden, and international travel may occur.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have an academic education that we assess as relevant for the position. You have experience working in a managerial role and are accustomed to leading and achieving results through other managers. You also have experience in cross-organizational work with insight into construction processes and resource coordination. You have documented good experience in development work and change management. You also have knowledge of information security and public administration.

You have very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as well as experience using administrative support systems. A Class B driver's license is required.

It is meritorious if you have experience working in security, defense-related environments, or a government agency.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. You are driven and communicative with very good strategic and analytical skills. Your leadership is characterized by clarity in goal descriptions and decisions. You can convey your messages at both the management level and in operational activities. Furthermore, you are structured, have good prioritization skills, and focus on deliveries. You easily create and develop relationships and act professionally in your daily life. You actively contribute to the development of the agency through the Swedish Fortifications Agency's management group. We need you who can professionally balance high security awareness with a clear focus on quickly building defense capability through vision and development.

About the employment

The position is a permanent employment with the workplace in Eskilstuna. Swedish citizenship is required, and the employment involves war posting and placement in a security class. Security clearance with register check is conducted prior to employment according to the Security Protection Act.
