University of Gothenburg meets society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 58,000 students and 6,800 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.
The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Research and education are conducted at the department, focusing on human health and quality of life. We represent 16 different subject areas and are divided into four sections. Through a enriching collaboration with healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefit both care and research.
The position is located at the Department of Urology and involves close collaboration between experimental and clinical research. Within the field of urology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, research and development are ongoing regarding diseases of the urinary tract and male reproductive organs. Urology is the second largest single cancer specialty after oncology. It accounts for approximately one-quarter of all cancer cases and constitutes one-third of all cancers affecting men, with prostate cancer being the most common form.
The Promeniche project aims to investigate the mechanisms through which prostate cancer cells metastasize to the skeleton. Specifically, how tumor-derived extracellular vesicles/exosomes or other blood-borne mediators affect the bone marrow microenvironment and contribute to the formation of pre-metastatic niches, which in turn enable the establishment of metastases. The project combines material from patient samples, experimental mouse models, and molecular analyses to identify biological mechanisms and potential biomarkers associated with metastatic progression.
Subject
Urological cancer research
Subject Description
The project is conducted at the Department of Urology but is primarily based at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research (SCCR). The primarily clinical research subject of urology is complemented here by biomedicine, cell biology, and molecular biology.
Responsibilities
The Promeniche research project conducts translational research on prostate cancer with a focus on liquid biopsies, the bone marrow microenvironment, and metastatic progression. The project includes experimental studies with mouse models, handling of patient samples, as well as molecular and cellular analyses of tumor-associated systemic signaling.
The employment involves planning and conducting experimental studies within the Promeniche project.
The tasks include:
Qualifications
Eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher is someone who has completed a PhD, a doctoral degree in the arts, or has a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made.
Priority should be given to those who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Those who completed their degree earlier should also be considered in priority if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, trust positions within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Assessment Criteria
A PhD in a relevant field such as cancer biology, molecular biology, immunology, experimental medicine, or equivalent is required.
The applicant must have the following qualifications:
Experience with flow cytometry, extracellular vesicles/exosomes, bioinformatic knowledge for analyzing data from RNA sequencing or proteomics, and handling of patient-derived material is considered meritorious.
Great emphasis will be placed on scientific independence, teamwork skills, and the ability to drive projects forward.
