Language is the foundation for thinking, communicating, and developing. For multilingual students, their mother tongue is a vital resource for both knowledge development and security in learning. Mother tongue instruction also strengthens development in Swedish and contributes to achieving the school's goals.

We are now looking for a mother tongue teacher in Dutch for the Municipality of Karlstad!

You will become part of the mother tongue unit, where approximately 45 colleagues work together to provide students with the best possible conditions for success.

Responsibilities

As a mother tongue teacher, you plan, conduct, and follow up on teaching and/or study guidance in Dutch for students in primary and upper secondary school. You teach according to the curriculum for the subject of mother tongue and document students' knowledge development.

You work to promote students' language, knowledge, and identity development by providing them with the prerequisites to communicate in speech and writing, adapting the language to different contexts, and developing an understanding of culture and societal issues related to the language.

You adapt the teaching to the students' needs, use digital tools in your work, and provide continuous feedback. The role also includes study guidance in collaboration with subject teachers and, if necessary, support in communication between school and home.

You collaborate with school staff and contribute to the value-based work according to the curriculum.

The work is carried out throughout the Municipality of Karlstad, both at municipal and independent schools within primary and upper secondary education. The position may also include remote teaching and requires good planning skills and flexibility.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• Good knowledge of Dutch, both in speech and writing, as well as good knowledge of Swedish
• Teacher education with a focus on mother tongue or other education/experience that the employer deems equivalent
• Experience of teaching or working with children and young people
• Good knowledge of the school's governing documents and the curriculum for mother tongue

We place great emphasis on personal competencies and are looking for someone who is self-reliant and takes responsibility for planning and structuring their work. You are flexible and able to adapt to changed conditions, such as schedules and student materials. You have good collaboration skills and work well with colleagues, student health services, and guardians. Furthermore, you are relationship-building and establish trusting relationships with students and colleagues. You also have a holistic view where you consider the student's entire knowledge situation and contribute to the school's overall mission.

A B-driver's license and access to a car are an advantage as the work takes place at several schools.

The positions will be filled subject to necessary decisions being made.
