Child and Student Health Services is a central administrative department for the child and student health work in Gotland's schools.

The primary mission of Child and Student Health Services is health promotion and prevention. Our common statutory main task is to support students' development to meet the school's knowledge and social goals. The Medical Intervention of Student Health (EMI) also has the task of offering health checks to students, helping students with simpler healthcare interventions, and working according to our medical basic program.

Child and Student Health Services is a well-functioning and driven operation that wants to give every employee the opportunity for personal and professional growth by providing a workplace with community, responsiveness, and valuing initiative, engagement, and responsibility. We work with evidence-based methods such as PAX in School, ABC Parent Group (all children at the center), and the conversation method MI (motivational interviewing).

You will be part of our counselor group, which consists of 17 counselors. We have regular professional group meetings as well as various team meetings focusing on collegial exchange, equity, quality, and development work. The counselor group is led by its own unit manager. We offer a wellness hour and wellness allowance, and we have regular organized common wellness and well-being activities.

The role of counselor includes adding psychosocial competence as support in the school's pedagogical work and in the overall planning of the student health work. You work to ensure that your knowledge of students' general psychosocial health and social situation is utilized in the work of student health and the school.

As a counselor, you contribute knowledge to the school about risk and protective factors for students' health, social situation, learning, and development, as well as provide knowledge about society's support systems. The role also includes contributing to the work on the school's structure and organization regarding values and equal treatment.

At the principal's request, the counselor investigates and assesses the social and psychosocial situation of individual students, among other things as a basis for decisions on special support, when drawing up action plans, and prior to admission to special primary and secondary schools.

The counselor's work also includes providing support, motivational, crisis, investigative, and advisory conversations to individual students and their families related to the school situation. You also provide supervision and consultation to the school's other staff. The counselor works together with the school doctor, school nurse, psychologist, and others in the school's student health team, which is led by the principal.
