Avesta Hospital is a small county hospital offering primary care for residents in southern Dalarna and northern Västmanland. The hospital has a combined clinic comprising emergency care, medicine, geriatrics, and rehabilitation. This provides good conditions for fast and efficient care, from the emergency department to inpatient wards and further to rehabilitation in the patient's home. The hospital has approximately 40 beds distributed across an acute care ward, an internal medicine ward, and a ward for acute geriatrics, stroke, and rehabilitation. The emergency department is open 24/7 and treats approximately 20,000 patients per year.

A large part of the operations is specialized outpatient care, offering various clinics and investigations, for example within cardiology (echocardiography, Holter monitoring, blood pressure measurements, TEE, exercise tests), endocrinology, nephrology (including home dialysis), gastroenterology (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), sleep medicine (nocturnal respiratory recordings and polysomnographies), and dementia investigations. Additionally, general internal medicine and geriatric investigations and treatment are offered, including bone marrow biopsies, pleural and ascitic taps, lumbar punctures, and more. The clinic also provides extensive inpatient paramedical care, as well as day and home rehabilitation. In total, we have 200 employees in various professional categories. We place great emphasis on education, and our goal is to be Sweden's best medical training school, which has contributed to us often ranking high for medical placements on the AT ranking.

Job Responsibilities

As a specialist in internal medicine, you will be assigned a defined area of responsibility within the clinic's broad operations, thereby qualifying for a senior physician position. Together with other senior physicians, you will have significant responsibility for both inpatient and outpatient specialist care. The duties include on-call backup duty 24/7, ward responsibility, as well as outpatient clinic operations and diagnostics. As part of the on-call backup, you will have support from a resident physician (ST-läkare) as a ward doctor during weekends. You will also supervise AT/BT and/or ST physicians, thereby contributing to the good educational climate.

The position is full-time, but part-time opportunities may also exist.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Swedish medical license and specialist competence in internal medicine and/or a closely related relevant specialty
• Swedish language skills equivalent to at least C1 level
