Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 staff members in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our strive to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions.
Workplace Description
LUNARC is the Centre for High-Performance Computing (HPC), Visualization, and Storage at Lund University. We provide advanced computing and data services to researchers across all faculties of the university, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, economics, humanities, and social sciences. In all these areas, the need for GPU resources for AI has increased significantly in recent years.
We operate modern HPC clusters, visualization resources, and advanced storage systems, and continuously develop new services for interactive and data-driven research. Our environment includes both traditional HPC infrastructure and modern platforms for container-based and cloud-native workflows.
We work closely with research environments such as MAX IV, as well as national and international research infrastructures. LUNARC is also part of the national infrastructure NAISS (National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden).
What We Offer
Lund University is a government agency, which means we offer good employment conditions, generous vacation time, and favorable pension terms. We have flexible working hours and the possibility of some remote work.
At LUNARC, you will work in an engaged team with high technical competence and great opportunities to influence both technology choices and working methods. We place great emphasis on competence development and offer both internal and external training opportunities.
You will work together with experienced colleagues and have the opportunity to develop within HPC and advanced research infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities
We are now looking for a Systems Engineer who wants to help develop the next generation of high-performance research infrastructure for computing, visualization, and storage.
This role suits you if you have a strong Linux and infrastructure background and thrive at the intersection of HPC, DevOps, and modern platform operations. You will work both operationally and developmentally in close collaboration with the rest of the team. You also enjoy working closely with users and contributing to ensuring that researchers get the best possible support in using LUNARC's resources.
The tasks vary between operational management, development of new services, and close collaboration with researchers and users. The role includes both daily infrastructure work and long-term development of LUNARC's technical platforms. Examples of tasks include:
- Operation and development of Linux-based HPC and research infrastructure
- Automation, configuration management, and development of internal services
- Operation and further development of container and virtualization platforms
- Monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
- Management of storage and network infrastructure
- User support for researchers and research projects
- Installation and optimization of scientific software
- Participation in development projects regarding new services and infrastructures
- Environmental scanning and evaluation of new technology within HPC, AI, and cloud infrastructure
The work is carried out in close collaboration with researchers, developers, and other infrastructure experts.
