Do you want to use your chemical expertise to make a real difference? SSAB is in the midst of one of the industry's largest climate transitions – the journey towards fossil-free steel production – and is now establishing a completely new wet chemistry laboratory in Luleå. We are looking for a laboratory engineer with a strong chemical background who wants to be involved from the start and build up analyses, methods, and working practices that will become a natural part of SSAB's fossil-free future. Here you get to combine analytical chemistry, quality, and social benefit – for real.
Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the planet's future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for our societal development and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities, and in tomorrow's cars. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and have committed ourselves to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be vital in realizing this goal and thereby contributing to a green transition of the entire steel industry.
About the role
As a laboratory engineer in wet chemistry, you will play a central role in the establishment of SSAB's new wet chemistry laboratory. You will be involved from the start and contribute to shaping the laboratory's working methods, structure, and technical solutions. The role includes responsibility for the selection and implementation of analytical equipment, as well as the development, validation, and quality assurance of wet chemical analysis methods in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.
An important part of the assignment is to develop and implement the LIMS system for wet chemical analyses, with a focus on traceability, quality, and an efficient analysis flow. You will work closely with both operations and technical functions and contribute to creating a modern laboratory adapted to future requirements.
The role is suitable for you who want to work close to chemistry and analysis – from method development and chemical principles to reliable and quality-assured results – and at the same time be part of SSAB's journey towards fossil-free steel production.
Your main responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and establishment of a new wet chemistry laboratory.
- Develop, implement, and validate wet chemical analysis methods.
- Implement and work further with LIMS for chemical analysis.

- Prepare specifications prior to the purchase of laboratory equipment.
- Participate in the selection and procurement of laboratory equipment.
- Act as a chemical specialist and internal advisor in analysis matters.
- Introduce and train new laboratory staff in methods and working practices.
About you
- University or college education in chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience in wet chemistry laboratory work and understanding of analysis principles, method development, and quality assurance.
- A structured and meticulous working approach with high quality awareness.
- Experience working according to ISO/IEC 17025 and LIMS is meritorious.
- Analytical and solution-oriented with a curious approach to chemistry and technology.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team and to take responsibility for tasks from start to finish.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- A valid driver's license (Category B) is required.
