Kalmar County Museum is a knowledge organization and meeting place. We are one of the country's largest county museums with a regional mandate to bring cultural heritage to life and preserve it. Guided by our vision "Kalmar County Museum changes lives" and with the stories of cultural heritage at the center, we create experiences that engage, touch, and inspire.

We are approximately 75 employees who together contribute to making cultural heritage accessible to more people. Our operations are broad and cover areas such as archaeology, building conservation, cultural environment pedagogy, exhibitions, conservation, maritime archaeology, as well as archives, libraries, and collections. The work extends across the entire Kalmar County, but also to neighboring counties as well as nationally and internationally. Our activities in the museum building and regionally attract around 100,000 visitors and participants every year. The museum is open year-round and is a highly appreciated destination with well-known brands, popular exhibitions, and events.

As an employer, we strive to be an attractive and sustainable workplace. We offer, among other things, wellness benefits and the opportunity for wellness activities during paid working hours.

The Built Environment Unit

The museum has a specific built environment unit, currently consisting of six building antiquarians. We have specialized knowledge about older houses, built environments, and landscapes in the region, and are specialists in cultural values. We enable cultural values to be developed, used, and preserved as cities and communities change, when older areas are to be put to new uses, and when individual buildings are to be altered or restored. Regional development issues and place development are areas we particularly want to develop further. With our combined competence and with cultural values as a resource, we contribute to a sustainable society and to well-designed living environments that give us people well-being, experiences, and security. We are primarily active in Kalmar County, but also carry out assignments outside the county, especially in Kronoberg and Blekinge counties. The operations are largely project-funded. Private individuals, larger property owners (private and public), municipalities, authorities, associations, and the Church of Sweden are the main partners and customers.

Here you have the opportunity to work in a fantastic county with both Öland and part of Småland's rich cultural heritage, as well as exciting societal development.

Are you our new Unit Manager?

We are looking for you who want to become part of and lead the operations and contribute to the work of developing and preserving Kalmar County's built cultural heritage. If you want to be part of continuing Kalmar County Museum's tradition of engaged cultural environment work, you will thrive with us.

You will become the manager of the six competent employees in the built environment unit. In this role, your task is to actively develop and drive the operations in dialogue with external and internal partners, engage and support the employees, and ensure a good working environment.

We welcome applicants with broad experience from the cultural environment field who can bring new knowledge and perspectives to the museum, for example in landscape, designed living environments, or regional development.

We apply the leadership model "Developing Leadership".
