Job Responsibilities

The position is located at the Emergency Department of Hallands sjukhus in Varberg. The duties include handling all types of patients seeking care at the emergency department, including pediatric patients. Supervision of AT-doctors (intern doctors) and other non-licensed physicians is part of the job. It is desirable that you actively contribute to the clinic's development.

Education

The positions are structured as standard specialist training (ST) posts with a combination of clinical work and education. A significant portion of the working hours is allocated as supplementary education at other departments within and outside the hospital. An individual ST plan is developed in consultation with supervisors, the study director, and the chief physician. Internal education is offered for approximately 12 days per year, and external courses are provided as necessary to meet the objectives for ST in emergency medicine. During the ST training, it is expected that the ST-doctor begins the specialist exam for the Swedish Society of Emergency Medicine (SWESEM), and internal education aims to provide the necessary prerequisites for this.

About the Workplace

Hallands sjukhus comprises the emergency hospitals in Halmstad and Varberg, and we also conduct planned care in Kungsbacka and Falkenberg. We have approximately 3,500 employees working to provide the best possible care for the residents of Halland, offering specialist care with high quality and good accessibility. The Emergency Clinic at Hallands sjukhus is a standalone clinic and consists of, among other things, the emergency departments in Halmstad and Varberg respectively. Emergency physicians have been present in Varberg since 2003. The Emergency Department at Hallands sjukhus in Varberg has approximately 44,000 visits annually. At the clinic, 15 specialists in emergency medicine, 9 ST-doctors at various stages of their specialist training, and 6 resident doctors work together. We treat acute patients of all specialties and ages. From 2025, the physicians of the Emergency Clinic have taken over the responsibility for physician staffing at the Emergency Department in Varberg.

We have a climate that promotes education and good collegiality. This is highlighted, for example, by very positive feedback from AT-doctors. The clinic has made progress in the development of, among other things, the emergency physician operations, but there is still great potential for development and good opportunities to participate in shaping future emergency care based on your own competence/interest and the needs of the operations.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed physician and already have some experience in emergency medicine. Previously started specialist training or specialist education in another relevant specialty is considered an asset. For the position, good cooperation skills and being a team player are required, as you work in a team with physician colleagues, nurses, assistant nurses, and medical secretaries. Good knowledge of the Swedish language is an absolute requirement. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
