Norrbotten Regiment (I 19) is one of Sweden's largest regiments. I 19 is tasked with producing combat units for the Norrbotten Brigade (NmekB 19). The units are specialized in assault combat in sub-Arctic environments and use vehicles such as the CV90 and the Strv 122.

FLF FIN (Forward Land Forces Finland)

From 2026, NmekB 19 and 191. Pbat will primarily focus on operating and serving with a force within the multinational force for FLF Finland. As an employee at NmekB 19 and Boden Garrison, you can be part of a historic mission for the garrison, the Norrbotten Brigade, the Swedish Armed Forces, and Sweden within the framework of NATO.

The current planning direction is that the majority of the force contribution will be stationed in Boden and conduct operations within the framework of NmekB 19 and FLF FIN in both Sweden and Finland.

Job Responsibilities

A nurse is expected to independently treat and care for injured, sick, and exhausted patients based on their individual needs and medical conditions, using limited resources. The position also involves following medical orders from doctors, sometimes under pressured working conditions, with the aim of saving lives or providing care to the sick and injured.

Common tasks for a nurse in a care group:

  • Perform resuscitation according to <C>ABCDE.
  • Provide care to the injured and sick.
  • Execute prescribed medical orders.
  • Triage and prioritize among the sick and injured.
  • Be responsible for the care group's medications and medical equipment, maintain the equipment, and ensure medical supplies are always available.
  • Prepare patients for transport and handover to other units.

Additionally, the nurse performs patient administrative work, both individually and in collaboration with others. The work consists of resource planning, patient documentation, use of reporting systems, and patient triage (sorting and prioritization).

Daily work includes exercises to prepare for acute care situations. The role includes combat training so that you can protect and defend your own group and patients. As a nurse, you must be able to undergo continuous further education.

All activities are conducted in accordance with the Health and Medical Services Act.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered Nurse (RN).
  • At least two years of clinical experience.
  • Military education, at least completed Basic Soldier Training (GSU).
  • Defence medicine internal training.
  • Category B driver's license.
  • Passed medical and physical tests according to the Swedish Armed Forces requirement profile.

Personal Attributes

You must be able to work well in a team but also independently and under difficult physical and psychological conditions. You are a good problem solver with strong analytical skills. You should have a desire to develop yourself and others. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Military basic training equivalent to conscription.
  • Previous work experience within the Swedish Armed Forces.
  • Completed MTRB, MTRA, prehospital hypothermia, bloodletting, and acute transfusion training.
  • Military driver's license LPTG, heavy truck.
  • Experience in prehospital work or disaster medicine.

Compensation for participation in FLF FIN for I 19

  • Compensation according to the Swedish Armed Forces collective agreement regarding working hours and mobility (business travel). This may change if a new agreement regarding overseas service is concluded between the parties.
  • The battalion combat group is on continuous operational readiness for 1–3 days during the readiness period. For operational readiness, you are compensated according to the collective agreement, currently 5,500 SEK per month.
  • Parts of the unit placed on readiness under NATO command are also subject to an additional time-limited salary supplement of 5,500 SEK/month during the readiness period. The total monthly compensation for those placed on readiness under NATO command amounts to 11,000 SEK in addition to base salary.
  • You are expected to complete approximately 35–40 Swedish Armed Forces days per six-month period, with the majority conducted in Finland.

Other Information

Employment type: Possibility of permanent employment, but also fixed-term employment only during the readiness period. The Swedish Armed Forces applies a six-month probationary period for those not already employed by the agency.

Information about the position

During the first phase of FLF, there will be extensive competence assessment and training. During the later phase of FLF, there are opportunities to do other work while on readiness. This could be as support for our Healthcare School, our Defence Health, or clinical service with the region according to individual agreement.

I 19 is one of Sweden's largest regiments with operations in Boden, Kiruna, Tåme, and Grubbnäsudden/Lomben. The headquarters and command of the regiment are located in Boden. The regiment's most important task is to build combat units, and in the coming years, I 19 will gradually develop the new Norrbotten Brigade. By 2028, the regiment should be able to train, store, and mobilize the entire brigade, including the associated functional units; command, field works, air defense, and logistics. The conscription training is conducted at the Norrbotten Armoured Battalion, which is responsible for training and maintaining units for the Norrbotten Brigade.

Employment with us involves placement in a security class. Swedish citizenship is usually required. Security clearance with register check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment entails an obligation to be war-placed.
